5.0 out of 5 stars Elegant, Seductive, Cool
Deeply felt, impeccably played, at times heartrendingly lovely--Mark Isham has produced what may be his best soundtrack. This may be something of an homage to Miles Davis; if so, it is beautifully done. However, on a more immediate level, this is music for love, for losing, for hoping. 3.0 out of 5 stars Afterglow Review
I, too, am a bit disappointed in the songs included in the CD. I rarely look for music, but totally enjoyed one of the songs in the movie. Very deep husky voice and wanted to find that title on the CD - No luck and quite disappointed. Can you help me find the complete Afterglow CD???

Thanks.

The saxaphone and vibes are perfect. Isham's trumpet is cool, blue. The piano is neither overbearing nor invisible. each player has something to add conversationally to the overall scheme. It is a shame to me that this album is likely to be forgotton as the movie was not a large success; the soundtrack can stand on its own, and deserves to be heard by a wide audience, as it is accessable to non jazz fans yet truly appreciable by the jazz afficianado. Play on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best CD for a Rainy Day, May 6, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Afterglow: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I've had this CD for 5 years, and it's still my favorite rainy day disc. I can sorta understand why consumers hoping to get ALL the music from the movie might feel gypped. But those people obviously aren't jazz fans. What you get instead with this remarkable CD are all the sessions featuring the great Charles Lloyd - some that wound up in the movie, a lot that didn't. Gary Burton's vibes rule. Without question, Mark Isham's best movie score.

4.0 out of 5 stars The album's afterglow will burn far longer than the film's, January 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Afterglow: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
Lush, elegant and wistful is this soundtrack featuring the sax of Charles Lloyd, Geri Allen's piano, Gary Burton on vibes and Sid Page -- remember Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks? - on violin. Long after the film has faded from memory these sounds demand repeated play, on sunless days and times when you need to curl up and disappear into something.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent album with very relaxing songs, January 1, 1999

The Afterglow soundtrack captures the spirit of mellow jazz as nothing has since the birth of be-bop. I highly recommend it to any jazz fanatic.

Mark Isham continues to compose seductive neo-cool jazz tunes. Gary Burton, Sid Page, Charles Lloyd combine with Mark's muted trumpet to brew an uncommon blend of vibes, violin, and sax. Comfortable ensemble work. Solos with just enough tension to make the resolution worth it. Enjoy this and then check out "The Moderns", also by Mark. Nice.

A while back I chanced upon a used cassette of Rubisa Patrol's Desert Marauders and discovered to my delight that the music still sounded fresh and good after all these years. Mark Isham was the trumpeter for pianist Art Lande's ensemble, and we all know that he went on to a successful career as a film music composer. Afterglow presents a collection of tunes from the soundtrack of a movie by the same name, and for these sessions, Isham surrounded himself with some of the finest names in jazz: Charles Lloyd on tenor, Gary Burton on vibes, Geri Allen on piano, Sid Page on violin, and Jeff Littleton on bass. As you might expect both from the title of the movie and the roster of musicians, the end result is a CD of tasty jazz, moody and atmospheric, gently swinging, a little nostalgic. The sound quality is representative of a good studio job, not outstanding in any particular parameter, but more than adequate in every way. A nice set for lovers of mainstream acoustic jazz.

This particular piece by Mark Isham is quite lovely. It has a lot of swank and yet is beautiful, sexy and yet mellow. A really lovely piece of work.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this CD if.............., July 18, 1999
This review is from: Afterglow: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
..........you expect it to be comprised of the wonderful mixed-bag of soulful souds heard in the movie. I rented the movie, fell in love with it, as wel as the soundtrack, rushed out to buy the cd, and I will be returning it tomorrow! In and of itself it is not a bad cd, but if you rush out to buy it based on what you heard in the movie, you too may be forced to return it.

I know this is an old request but just saw your message yesterday along with the movie. I did a "Google" and FINALLY came up with what might be the answer to your quest. Try entering this in "Google"---"Non Credere" Fausto Leali. I'm pretty sure this is the guy, but so far not finding any audio. Anyway hope this helps and even more important hope this is the guy. I'm off to do more searching.
