Afterglow.......GLOWS,
By "shyober" (Missoula, Montana, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Afterglow: Will Rogers Sessions (Audio CD)
Just got this CD and it is just what I expected from The Great Divide......EXCELLENT! You just got to love those off-the-beaten-path lyrics that aren't boring like most of today's country music. These are guys you want to invite to your Sat. nite BBQ to drink a little and play a little music. These guys are real and so is their music.

Another Great CD from the Heart,
By "bennb1" (Lincoln, NE United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Afterglow: Will Rogers Sessions (Audio CD)
I'm sure this 4-star will become a 5-star in a matter of days as I'm now listening to it constantly (so I'll go ahead and bump it up now)! Upon first purchase I didn't think I liked it as much as the previous albums, but it has grown on me GREATLY! This band is a great combo of country/rock and many think Mike McClure sounds a great deal like Jon Bon Jovi--not sure about that, but oh well. The heart of the lyrics and music is country, but you can't deny the slight rock influence as well. I've seen them too many times to count in concert and the shows are always great. Their covers of "Copperhead Road" and Everclear would please any music fan. Their original songs contain a combination of heart/passion/simpleness, yet are deep in their sentimentality. I would go see this band over many other big name bands anyday! I would have to say their CD "Break in the Storm" is their best, but this CD and "Revolutions" are not far behind at all. Their debut CD has its pluses as well, but I believe "Break in the Storm" is my fave b/c it was their breakout album so to say. I can't believe they haven't hit it any bigger yet, but I think you'll be seeing a great deal more of these guys in the near future. Most country fans would consider "Pour Me a Vacation" a great tune, however they've missed the boat if that's all they think TGD has to offer. I can listen to any TGD album at any time and it touches each emotion--one song will fire you up and then the next will be a heart-felt ballad and the next an introspective look at life. What a gift this band truly is! The best on the new album include "Days Go" (first single released), "Wildflower", and "Floods"; however, I believe each song is worth a listen. This band is probably the one that drew me to country music as a whole. I enjoy all kinds of music and had considered myself a "country-hater" previously. This group is infectious. Do yourself a favor and buy their CDs.

This is the best Great Divide Cd I have ever heard. The Great Divide is an awesome band to start with, and this is the greatest that they have put out.

WHY,
This review is from: Afterglow: Will Rogers Sessions (Audio CD)
Someone please explain to me why this cd is so friggin expensive. No one even knows who this band is for the most part and they don't exist anymore. Ok so Mike McClure is a hottie but I'm not paying 24 bucks for this cd!

This the first CD i ever bought, and that was at there concert here in DAVID CITY, NEBRASKA at the Butler County Fair of 2002 this is also the first time i had ever heard of them. i was even lucky enough to shake hands and talk to Mike McClure (lead singer). However their not all country they have a little of a rock tune to some of their songs. if you like this kind of music then this is a must have CD. the best songs that i like off this cd is "Wildflowers", "Wild Horses", and "Out Of Here Tonight" along with all the other songs. no one will be dissappointed with this CD, trust me.

Its only a matter of time before these guys hit the big time. I just got 'Afterglow' today and I can't stop listening to it. 'Floods' is an outstanding song on a CD FULL of them. Great job guys, keep it coming!

Excellent album from a truly classy band,

The Great Divide has produced another great album. This band's undeniable talent and uncompromising approach is reflected in the music--a unique blend of classic country with a little southern rock influence. This combination creates a sound unlike anything else playing on the radio today. The current album, Afterglow, is an excellent example of this band's work. This album does not have any one single that jumps off the disc, as this band's other albums have had. ("Something Wicked", "Pour Me a Vacation", "Never Could", "College Days", and "Nowhere Woman" are good examples.) But this certainly is not a criticism of this album. Instead, the songs really come together as a whole much better than any of The Great Divide's other albums. "Wildflower" is a very good song, from its sincere beginning to its strong ending. "Hang on Cowboy" is a wry cautionary tale. And, as always, I love the hidden track. In addition, The Great Divide is a great live band. I saw them in a packed concert in Lincoln, NE. They kept the house cheering with their songs, and amazed the fans by showing fantastic versatility. This is the only band that I know that can cover the Highwaymen, Don McLean, and Everclear in the same concert and sound great doing it. (Though with a crowd of country fans, I think I was one of three people in the house that actually recognized the Everclear cover.) And as good as this band is, the members are even better people. After playing for over two hours, the band stayed three more hours signing autographs and posing for pictures for every fan that wanted one. The members also made it a point to speak to everyone in line personally. These are classy guys that have tremendous talent. I would recommend "Afterglow", "Revolutions", "Break in the Storm", and "Going for Broke" to everyone. Also, check their website at thegreatdivide.provalue.net to find out when and where you can see them in concert. You will not be disappointed.

Great Divide .....another winner,

Afterglow.. what a title..a perfect name. Because as after you listen to this album you are in a glow. A very good album ( not as good as "Revolutions" or "Break in The Storm") My favorite song? "Wildflower", the way Mike McClure does it acoustic and then comes back with drums and electric guitars just blows me away. I sincerly think these guys deserve so much more than they are getting.I listen to what passes as music these days and I scratch my head....These guys are just so much better than alot of stuff out there. Mike McClure is so talented. a great songwriter and guitarist. My only complaint? I wanted them to include this little song that they do sometimes in concert about the 60's.using all these titles from old rock n roll songs.(Maybe on the next album) I have seen them on stage in front of thousands of people and I have seen them in front of as few as 50-60 people. They are great musicians and I think you would enjoy this album.
