This is a MUST READ,
By Thomas Wolf (Cambridge, MA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Aftermarriage: The Myth of Divorce (Paperback)
I have been married 34 years and have no intention of getting a divorce -- yet, I still found this book so stimulating that I read it in one long sitting. It helped me to understand many people I know and why they behave the way they do before, during, and after their divorces. The book is an extraordinary portrait of real people. I now understand how the law regards and treats different types of partnerships and what happens when marriages are over. Robboy's fascinating and somewhat disturbing thesis is that most marriages are in fact never really "over."

Must read for anyone in a relationship!,
By Dr. M. S. White, J. D. (Watertown, MA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Aftermarriage: The Myth of Divorce (Paperback)
This book is a must read for anyone who is in a serious relationship. Whether you are contemplating marriage or divorce, this book has important information that will affect how you choose to frame your affairs. In a simple easy-to-read style the book explains the legal and personal complications that make ending a marriage an extremely painful experience that doesn't end with the divorce decree. Anita Robboy explains how marriage is a legal commitment that is heavily regulated by the state. If children are involved, the state's involvement becomes even more burdensome. If you are simply contemplating marriage and have resources, you need to carefully examine the financial implications of marriage before you walk down the aisle with visions of a life of bliss. Drawing on her years of experience as a divorce attorney, Anita Robboy provides the reader with an inside view of the various types of marriages that she has observed and what happens when couples in these marriage decide to divorce. The pain, suffering, and disillusionment that she describes should make couples pause before they decide to sever their marriages. Divorce is a major disruption of most people's lives and has a heavy price. Moreover, when children are involved, one can never wipe the slate clean and post-divorce arrangements are never perfect.

This review is from: Aftermarriage: The Myth of Divorce (Paperback)
It seems so obvious, but Anita Robboy's book, Aftermarriage, makes it clear that a legal divorce really doesn't end the marriage relationship. The concept of "aftermarriage" more accurately describes the long post-divorce relationship as the couple deals with issues around money, children and, later, grandchildren. This book is a must-read for those entering marriage, as well as those contemplating or going through a divorce. Mental health professionals and divorce attorneys, like myself, should recommend it to their clients so they can view divorce as just a first phase of a long, "aftermarriage" relationship.

At last!,

This review is from: Aftermarriage: The Myth of Divorce (Paperback)
Anita Robboy has taken a topic that can only be described as frought and brought it into focus in the most practical, thoughtful and empathetic manner possible. If every couple who find that they are not able to live together took a page from her book their lives individually, and those of their suffering children (no matter what age) would be vastly improved. This is not only a wise book, but a compassionate and well written one.

This review is from: Aftermarriage: The Myth of Divorce (Paperback)
This is outstanding book for anyone at any stage in their life to read. It helps make sense not only of divorce, but also of marriage. The author helps us understand the continuation of marriage after divorce; and, as a result, the importance of preserving the marriage. The book should be read by everyone, but especially those contemplating marriage. And thanks to the author, everyone can read it. The book is extremely well organized and plain speaking, while illustrating some important, profound issues.

Making Marriage and Divorce Work,
By
This review is from: Aftermarriage: The Myth of Divorce (Paperback)
While I consider myself to be happily married and, at this moment in time, do not wish to be divorced I nevertheless found Anita Robboy's 'Aftermarriage - The Myth of Divorce', excellent reading. It seems to me that the book is valuable and interesting on many levels for anyone who is interested in relationships, marriage or divorce.Robboy has much to offer her reader. She has been a divorce attorney for over twenty five years, yet her easy flowing style avoids dull legal jargon, making her book highly understandable, and relavant to any reader in a relationship that is working or is failing to work. Clearly, this book will be of immediate appeal to the divorced or those about to be divorced, but I unhesitatingly recommend it also to the married and those considering marriage. The book emphasizes the gravity of marriage that has, for the most part been played down over recent years. People can and do enter into marriage with the idea that divorce is relatively easy to obtain - this may well prove to be true, but any notion that the end of the relationship is the divorce itself is merely a fallacy. Marriage is not something to be entered into lightly, and once there, and here I could not agree more with Robboy, one has to continually readjust to one's partner and circumstances. Robboy's book is absolutely worth the read.

AFTERMARRIAGE: THE MYTH OF DIVORCE,
By A Customer
This review is from: Aftermarriage: The Myth of Divorce (Paperback)
For anyone who is married, contemplating marriage, contemplating divorce, or in the midst of a divorce, this book is an absolute must read. The author sets forth her thesis at the outset-that marriage is really forever (excepting only for short term childless marriages.) She provides a wonderful roadmap to the divorce process and a fresh approach to marriage and what follows: aftermarriage. It has changed permanently my thinking about marriage and aftermarriage.

This is an informative book on how to get a divorce. The book talks about the different ways one can get a divorce and the ramifications of each choice. I especially liked being able to read about the different fictional couples and the issues that they struggled with. I could really see myself in some of them. I am glad I found this book.
