It's the Slackers; what more could you want?, September 9, 2011
This review is from: Afternoon in Dub (Audio CD)
Value - Decently priced, great deal for your money.
Performance - Product worked as it should. As for the content and the Slackers performance, this album is in my top 3 Slackers albums!
Ease of Use - Simply one of the best background records of all time. I can find just about any occasion to throw this on, and it just works. The Slackers have made a genre specific release that caters to music-heads of all types.
Features - I especially enjoyed the Propaganda Dub and the Dub for Schooling. So many awesome tracks on this record.
Criticism - For us Slackers fans, we really appreciate the rough-and-tumble story telling that has come to be the backbone of these NYC stalwarts. With this being a deeply instrumental introspective on their style, I miss hearing those stories as they accompany the music!
Overall - A great addition to an already massive catalog of awesome music put out by this band. This is a must listen for Slacker fans everywhere and a really good transition disc for those just starting to listen to the band. Throw this disc on at a party, before bed or while at work, you will not be disappointed.

Hard to find, but so worth it., February 12, 2011
This review is from: Afternoon in Dub (Audio CD)
So this is a big departure from style from the slackers, an NYC based ska band with a throwback feel. They play classic sounding stuff, not Reel Big Fish or Less Than Jake bubblegum, sugary pop ska.
They usually keep a cool second wave sound, sort of like hepcat, the specials, or the toasters. But this album is slowed down. Much more of a reggae/dubwise feel here. REALLY cool stuff, especially the bass, drums and organ work.
Gotta love that organ on "Dub for Schooling. This album definitely has an Upsetters/Lee Scratch Perry feel to it, but unlike many of his productions, everything sounds crisp and clean.
If you find yourself in the mood for what i've described, you have got to hunt this baby down. Google like crazy, or buy the vinyl they have for sale here on amazon.
