Book Description

July 31, 2012 Lords of Vice (Book 5)

Alexandra Hawkins

All Afternoon with a Scandalous Marquess

Simon Jefferes, the Marquess of Sainthill, has done the unthinkable—he’s fallen in love. The so-called “Saint” has spent his life gambling, dallying with women, and satisfying his every whim. And he fully intended to continue his wicked ways, until he met the mysterious, exotic, and irresistible Madame Venna—the one woman he can’t have…and the only one he’s ever wanted for more than an evening.

The proprietress of the Golden Pearl, one of London’s most exclusive brothels, Madame Venna takes pride in the lush, decadent club she’s created. With a half-mask to conceal her identity, she’s careful to safeguard something even more valuable—her heart. But Saint is determined to tear down the walls she’s built around herself, and to finally expose the truth—that Madame Venna is a woman very much in love…with him.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Hawkins creates strong characters and dramatizes high emotion along with sensuality. Fans of Stephanie Laurens and Jo Beverley will enjoy this series." --Booklist on All Afternoon with a Scandalous Marquess

"There are no men like the Lords of Vice, those dashing heroes created to steal hearts. Hawkins once more fascinates, with an emotional love story of the bad boy who meets his match in an extraordinary woman. Desire in disguise was never so sweet or passionate, and Hawkins hooks readers and draws them all the way in to the perfect ending." --Romantic Times on All Afternoon with a Scandalous Marquess

1.0 out of 5 stars HUH??????? August 8, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
What the heck happened. Chapter 30 was about 4 paragraphs. Missing big pieces in the story line. First 3 books were good. Last one was good until the end fell apart. This one started off OK but left out all the resolutions to the different conflicts that were building up. Nothing was solved. conflict.... conflict..... no resolutions what so ever......happily ever after....huh? VERY Disappointing!!! I want a refund!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Where are the missing story pieces? August 1, 2012
By Laura
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I love the Lords of Vice & eagerly look forward to each one. I enjoyed this story until Chapter 30-32. It seemed as though something was supposed to happen (both leads were about to meet with another character important to the story), and then all of a sudden they are meeting to deal with their own love story & bada boom, it's the end. Ms. Hawkins, what happened????? I still eagerly await the next two lords of vice & their stories next year, but I really hope I am not disappointed (especially in Frost's story).

NEW CONTENT: So, I emailed Ms. Hawkins & asked her directly about the way this book ended. Someone in the comments section of my original review posted basically what she said to me & can be found on her Facebook page apparently. I love these stories, and have since the first excerpt of the Lords of Vice series. I am going to trust Ms. Hawkins' ability to write a well-written story with all missing content and I look forward to her two remaining books in this series. Despite the fact you feel as though something is missing at the end, it was very enjoyable up through Chapter 29. Leaves you wanting more...isn't that what good books are supposed to do? I'm being optimistic here. :)

2.0 out of 5 stars What the ??? August 10, 2012
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I also have been a fan of this author and series and was thrilled to sit down to read Saint's story. Really loved it until - WTF? I was convinced several chapters didn't make it though the printing process! The book did seem a bit thinner than typical; something I noticed when I purchased it, so I was sure my suspicions were correct.
But when the kindle format reviews concurred with the "missing chapters" I was really really stunned. What author doesn't write the climax and resolution to the story???? The confrontations with the Royles, the reconcilitation with her father, the whole Halward thing, the marriage proposal, aauugh...............I feel cheated out of what could have been a great story for my summer reads.
