Editorial Reviews

In honor of the one-year anniversary of the Sichuan Earthquakes, two pioneers in entirely different genres - folk and electronica - merged to increase knowledge and understanding of the continuing aftermath of the earthquake. Afterquake is a collection of raw, remixed field recordings of post-earthquake soundscapes as well as performances by relocated children and their faraway parents captured and produced by Abigail Washburn and Shanghai Restoration Project creator Dave Liang, in cooperation with Sichuan Quake Relief. A portion of the proceeds from this EP will benefit the Sichuan Quake Relief organization.

5.0 out of 5 stars Moving & beautiful music May 8, 2009
Format:Audio CD
I was an ESL teacher in China for 2 1/2 years, and came back to living in the States at the end of 2005. When the devastating earthquake hit Sichuan Province last year, I was deeply touched in particular by Melissa Block's live story on NPR. Today, as I was driving to pick up my son from school, I heard the NPR interview with Abby & Dave, and I was incredibly moved by their stories, and especially by "Song for Mama". I looked at their website tonight & purchased a CD. Not only is this a very worthy cause for support, but the music is really fabulous too.

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful work October 26, 2009
By B Rice
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Heard it over NPR and got it right away. It's a good charity work, and as a music album it definitely has some inspirational and emotional songs. Be sure to check out its website for additional information.

It's slightly cheaper on iTunes, but Amazon's digital download is in .MP3 format.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greate music with an added dimension June 9, 2009
Format:Audio CD
This album is truly one-of-a-kind. Abby and her partner are able to combine grass-root music with her own cutting-edge artistry. I bought this CD along with Sparrow Quartet CD after listening the samples on Abby's own website. Abby has also been doing the right kind of activism in China by 1) extending a helpful hand to local communities, and 2) fostering the mutual understanding of two unique cultures in a very modern, dignified and intimate way. Way to go, Abby !

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting work; benefits those who need help April 11, 2010
By J. Lee
Format:MP3 Music
This is a fantastic little album and a cool and socially conscious premise. Washburn and the Shanghai Restoration Project went out to the hardest hit areas from the Sichuan earthquake on a music mission. Some of the songs are really great, though they are all quite different from what you would normally expect from Washburn. I particularly like Sala and a Song for Mama. Both give me chills. There are also videos of the songs on youtube so check them out and buy the album to support the good cause.
