"Get Back In Line" from the new album The World Is Yours

Biography

Motörhead have never JUST been the best rock'n'roll band in the world. They've never JUST been the loudest. Or the hardest. Or the toughest. Or the bad-ass-est. No...Motörhead are also a lifestyle.

Motörhead are a mindset, a belief, a way to live your life, a way to both survive and beat a society that sometimes seems intent on grinding you down.

Editorial Reviews

Motörhead delivers their 21st studio album, an enormous and prophetic Aftershock. Recorded at NRG Studios in North Hollywood, it is a true leveler, a crushing confirmation of everything Motörhead stands for, marching from the dust storm to deliver 14 belting statements which see Motörhead in perhaps their best writing form for years. There's swagger, there's punch, there's speed and there's dirty filthy grooves, Lemmy Kilmister, Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee showing clearly that Motörhead is not simply a band, it's a genre!

Customer Reviews

The songs, sound and performance are as good as anything Motorhead has done.

Aftershock is a showcase album for Motorhead, as Lemmy, Phil Campbell, and Mikkey Dee demonstrate the versatility in their familiar sound. The album opens with two straight ahead, forceful rockers, Heartbreaker and Coup de Grace. They prove from the jump that, recent physical ailments aside, Lemmy is giving no ground on the rock `n' roll front. These songs are only the beginning of a breathtaking sonic ride.

Lost Woman Blues has a snaking, slinking groove; a wise blues performer would do well to cover this tune. Dust and Glass is a slower tempo number in which Lemmy comes damn close to crooning. Both songs are excellent, and the songs that respectively follow them, End of Time and Going to Mexico, are as fast as anything in the Motorhead canon. Another highlight on Aftershock is Silence when You Speak to Me, the sonic equivalent of a marauding army.

Aftershock starts off strong, and it never lets up. It is solid Motorhead throughout. Old fans should be anything but disappointed, and it isn't a bad beginning point for newcomers. Get it. Now.

Without a doubt Motorhead has one of (if not the longest and most consistent streak) in all things hard rock and heavy metal. Lemmy is the definition of hardwork and success and at almost 70 years old, he has released one heck of an album for the awaiting masses. I wont get into too much detail as 1) most of you have your own opinions and have already heard this killer release. 2) I have to write a college paper so I will keep this brief haha.

Aftershock is one of their best albums. With the speed, intensity, rasp from Lemmy's aging voice, and some major blues influences this might be one of my favorite Motorhead albums of all time. Not Ace Of Spades nor Overkill, but something different, something new. Whenever most bands decide to release an album (especially those in age) its primary purpose is for those die hard fans from the days of old. With "Aftershock" Motorhead has changed the game! Aftershock is a great album and is possibly a great album for a new fan to get into. Its accessible, it rocks, it shocks all those who doubted in this band.

I'm excited to say that I cant stop listening to this! I'm glad Lemmy has recovered from the illness he had prior to Aftershock. But friends, metalheads, rock n roll fans, if you play this album on high blast, I assure you the ground will quake. And beware for its usually the aftershock that catches people off guard.

One of the greatest albums of the year and one of the most solid Motorhead releases to date. Lemmy and company bring it with more energy, raw power, and musicianship than many younger bands these days. There's really not much more to say, this album is rock solid, well done, high energy, fun, and all Motorhead.

Motörhead have been on an upward swing since 2000 with We Are Motörhead. Aftershock is a crowning achievement on par with some of their best. Ace Of Spades is their popular favorite however, Iron Fist was even better in my opinion and Aftershock feels like a second part to that album. It kicks you in the face right from the start and never lets up. Old fans will love it and it's actually an album I'm fairly confident would serve well as a gateway release for new fans.

Get it immediately, Lemmy commands you to do so.

Fans of Motorhead, Lemmy in particular, have been concerned about his health lately, and for good reason given his fast and loose life style, but at least musically, he's not just alive and well - the whole band is still mopping up the floor with young pups almost 50 years younger.
When I buy a new Motorhead album, it's a great comfort zone because I know exactly what I'll get every time: the hardest rock and roll on the planet and probably a few solar systems around us if they can get a signal. Lemmy, Phil Campbell and Mickey Dee are as classic a line up as the "Ace of Spades" team, and guitarist Phil Campbell has put by far the most time in as Motorhead's axe slinger, stepping in on "Orgasmatron" back in the early '80's and a bonafide rock and roll guitar hero in his own right.
"Aftershock" continues in the vein of the last several albums, as well it should be. Lemmy's bass sound is more pronounced, and sounds much better lately, and the production is tighter than hell. For a band that reveled in its gloriously sloppy approach in the Fast Eddie daze, they have become over time a precision outfit that knocks you over with more energy than any band around. There isn't one standout track - it's 14 songs of slamming metallic rock and roll. Motorhead are truly legends, and they damn well better get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when they're eligible or I'll consider the whole thing a pathetic farce. Long live Lemmy and Motorhead.

I like Motorhead for two reasons. One; they're pretty f****** fast when they want to be. And I'm a speedfreak. I'm rather fond of their faster songs, especially the ones that just cut right to the chase. Rather than relying on technical prowess, (although, that's not to say they're not capable of doing that when they want to,) Lemmy and Co. take the direct approach; a no frills, no prisoners, and most importantly, no B.S. mindset of songwriting. Speed truly kills. Unless of course, you're Lemmy. Which you're not.

The second reason is that these Bastards, (pun intended,) consistently put out great albums every 2 years or so. They're really good at putting out great, no nonsense rock 'n roll albums. If it's not great, at the VERY least, the album's just "pretty good", which, compared to 90% of the other metal/rock bands out there these day, equates to; "still more badass than anything you could come up with."

This album is no exception, and you should really buy it if you're a fan of speed metal or rock, an old time Motorhead fan, or even someone listening to Motorhead for the first time. Other than that, there's not much more to tell you, really. Other than to buy this album, and pretty much every album Motorhead's ever made. Like, ever.

It's a Motorhead album; it's fast, it's mean, it's got a few interesting parts here and there to have some pacing, but for the most part, it's a no holds barred beatdown, start to finish. "Aftershock" will rip you a new one, and not even give you the common courtesy of replacing it.
