Book Description

March 28, 2009
Detective Paige Aldridge's loved ones are prey for a serial killer. Desperate to help her sister, she is determined to find out who is behind it all. After being the victim of a kidnapping, she is traumatized by memories she does not know she has. She sees visions of the murders and believes she is being followed by someone she's only seen in the shadows. Trying to run from her dreams, she is sent spiraling down a path of self-doubt, fear, and betrayal. Paige finds an unlikely friend that tries to help her by telling her unbelievable things. Teamed up with her partner, Jay, she tries to put all of the pieces together. Are all of these things connected? Will Jay believe in her, and most importantly, will Paige believe in herself? Are the memories true or is it just an elaborate mind game? Can she get her thoughts together before it's too late?

4.0 out of 5 stars Quick & easy read that explores the power of mind manipulation, January 29, 2010
This review is from: Afterthoughts (Paperback)
When perusing a thriller, readers are expected to suspend their disbelief. Circumstances that are improbable in reality are readily accepted in a fictitious world where anything is possible. Such is the case in Lynn Tincher's Afterthoughts, the first installment in her Mind Bending suspense series. The main character, Paige Aldridge, is put through the wringer. Surviving a torturous kidnapping isn't enough. Three of her family members succumb to murder or suicide within days of each other. To top it off, she begins to experience violent mental flashbacks. Her life is thrown into a state of total upheaval.

How does she cope? With the help of a good man, of course. There's David, the frequently absent boyfriend. And then there's Jay, the ever dependable co-worker. As Jay steps in to comfort Paige, his feelings for her take a romantic turn. He doesn't want to take advantage of her vulnerability, but the anguish of his undisclosed attraction leaves him unraveled.

Paige is unsure of everything. She is a complete mess. While reeling from a set of tragic events, she is in a purely emotional state. Employed as a police detective, her rational, analytical side is not displayed because her mind is being manipulated by an outside force. Tincher introduces the concept of the collective conscious, an inner dimension composed of thoughts and dreams. It is Paige's kidnapper who begins bombarding her mind with imagery of murder. His psychic aptitude is strong enough to enter her mind at will. There is only one person who can help Paige - her long lost sister, Junna. The family's psychic abilities take center stage as the novel reaches a page-turning conclusion.

Overall, this is a quick and easy read that explores the power of mind manipulation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mystery, romance, secrets, suspense, August 1, 2009
This review is from: Afterthoughts (Paperback)
Mystery, romance, secrets, suspense. Author Lynn Tincher's book, the first of her Mind Bending Series, is a page turner that has it all. Paige Aldridge is a detective who sees her family and friends dying, one by one, under mysterious circumstances: Suicide? Murder? Accidents? Paige, herself, has disturbing dreams, and hears voices talking to her. She keeps seeing someone in the shadows, watching her, and thinks she's going crazy.

Paige also is torn between her boyfriend, David, and her detective partner, Jay. David isn't there to support her when she needs him the most. Jay works with her to solve the mysteries. I found myself wanting to read one more chapter then one more to see what happened next. Along the way, the author plants some surprises that add to the plot, and the reader discovers that nothing is what it seems.

Afterthoughts is a delightful read that will hold you spellbound until the end. I recommend the book to everyone who enjoys a good mystery, thriller, and characters that you either love or hate. I'm looking forward to the second book in the series.
