Finally a Guidebook for Consciousness "Closet-Cases",
By A Customer
This review is from: Afterwards, You're a Genius (Hardcover)
Chip Brown's journey is one that many have undertaken, but the account of his particular route paves the way for those who have wanted to "go there" but have not done so for fear of appearing foolish. This reader has spent several decades exploring body/mind questions, eastern religions, and other metaphysical mysteries. My quest has been green from the start, but my method too often yellow. (Thanks to Brown's translation, one can finally speak aloud the color language of chakras and their corresponding wave patterns which healers have long used to communicate with each other.) I have furtively visited several of the exotic lands he describes, and despite the thrills -- and chills -- of my travels, I don't show my slides at dinner parties for fear of invitations "drying up," as he so amusingly puts it. However, after twelve years of study with the "Lady Lama" in his story, I can attest to the accuracy of his account. In addition to much much more, I have learned from her that healing begins in the heart which is fueled by compassion, courage, and, yes, humor. Brown's book is replete with these qualities and it will go a long way toward helping some on the journey to come out of the closet, and others to just lighten up. Medicine is about to take a huge leap forward and Brown's narrative will serve as a compass for those who have the courage to go.

Afterwards, I want to hear more,

This review is from: Afterwards, You're a Genius (Hardcover)
I approached Chip Brown's book with a healthy load of skepticism astride my shoulders (which is probably why I visit a chiropractor every week!). Having submitted my body to various alternative healing procedures over the past two years, homeopathy, polarity, muscle testing, and accupressure were not unknown techniques. Having been raised in a family where scientific proofs were valued by otherwise open-minded parents, I had been vacillating between belief and disbelief for years. The manner in which Mr. Brown presents his journey into 'the metaphysics of healing' makes for tedious reading at times but also contains passages that flow into the readers consciousness like a tide of enlightenment. Add to this Mr. Brown's hilariously dry wit (which puntuates most of the book) and you have what is basically an exploration by an everyman/writer into a mystery he only half comprehends. When I finally turned the last page I was dismayed that there wasn't more to read as so many questions had been left unanswered. In the final analysis, it has only complicated my own journey of exploration.

I read this book several years ago. Now I realize it remains one of my all-time favorites. It is written in a quirky, humorous, personal philosophic style. It's not a cut-and-dry book about energy healing.
It is funny, beautifully written and provocative. Read it and enjoy!

Best Book Ever on Metaphysics,
By A Customer
This review is from: Afterwards, You're a Genius: Faith, Medicine, and the Metaphysics of Healing (Paperback)
Finally! An intelligent, thoughtful book on energetic healing and new age philosophy that doesn't sound like it was written by a 10-year-old. Well-researched, insightful, and awe-inspiring. A must-read for skeptics and non-skeptics alike...and especially recommended for those of you intellectuals who believe but feel guilty about it. This book will enlighten you. :-)

Chip Brown's excellent adventure into the world of ........,

This review is from: Afterwards, You're a Genius: Faith, Medicine, and the Metaphysics of Healing (Paperback)
.....energy healing and healers. This is a fun, informative, and personal story of Mr. Brown, who went from skeptical and objective journalist, to avid client and participant in the subtle energy healing arts. Mr. Brown chronicles his experiences and relationships with several prominent and not so prominent practitioners. He also delves into the history of mental and bio-energetic practices and practitioners, and includes Mesmer, Reich, and others.Brown works out in print the cognitive dissonace between his skeptical and rational evaluations, and his personal empirical results and experiences which contradicted them. I found his ongoing inner commentaries and point-counterpoint debates entertaining and hilarious at times. This is a great first hand exploration of the worlds of chakra healers, astral spiders, extraterrestrial skull implants, and dozens of other unconventional, new age, and esoteric healing beliefs and practices. There is something here for both believers and skeptics of this universe next door.

strange subject treated with integrity and intelligence,
By A Customer
This review is from: Afterwards, You're a Genius (Hardcover)
Chip Brown is a journalist. He isn't taken in by mumbojumbo. He starts off quizzically, wondering if all this new age stuff is really mumbo jumbo. But he has the openess to allow himself to be moved, to become involved but never to be entirely taken in. His writing is lyrical and beautiful, his take on this late 90s subject is humourous, intelligent and so raw in its honesty I was really moved. Rarely do men allow themselves to be this exposed. A book to convince women that men who are thoughtful, truthful and brave do exist.

Beautifully written study of the mind's "miraculous" powers,
By A Customer
This review is from: Afterwards, You're a Genius (Hardcover)
The role of the mind in healing the body is only one of many fascinating questions the author addresses in a journey to the mist-shrouded regions beyond the borders of the scientifically knowable. The journey takes him from conventions of psychics to operating rooms where prayer and the manipulation of patients' energy 'auras' is part of the surgical regimen. Astounding anecdotes abound, salted with Brown's personal experiences with noted healers. He manages to maintain a skeptical reserve without losing his openness and enthusiasm for the wonders he observes, His skill in relating his findings to his own life is a brilliant tour-de-force which adds still more interest to an immensely readable story.

This review is from: Afterwards, You're a Genius (Hardcover)
This is a landmark piece on an important and powerfully emerging subject. Brown has crafted a compelling read that forces us to examine that which we have assumed for far too long. Written with humor and insight, this always intelligent work questions our very essence. It may end traditional medicine as we know it. Earth shattering!

A funny thing happened ... to the Mike Spatuzzi,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Afterwards, You're a Genius (Hardcover)
I read the book with interest based on some openings I had experienced in 2000. After reading about Barbara Brennan and her advice to a fellow who was impotent and who barbara had given a healing in a San Diego Hotel- go see Michael Spatuzzi in Del Mar for a follow up healing.
I called the number in the phone book- for Mountain Natural Distributing -Micheal began to explain his healing modus operandi- I told him I would trust him - much too much as it turned out-off to see M Spatuzzi I went. Unfortunately he is very money oriented and put me, his patient, in danger with his referrals After seeing Michael Spatuzzi for 31/2 years, I fell. He referred me to Dr Don Walker DC to continue energetic healing and to work with my back with a WC claim. Mike is a cash only, no insurance, After a few treatments he will recommend that you come in once a week at the tune of $500.00 a month. All sorts of openings happen at a biweekly treatment! Dr Walker while odd and self serving is pleasant and sweet, and all the while being highly manipulative As he once told me "I like older women" yes, and where else can they obtain sex with 20 -30 year younger man? I was asked by Don to introduce him my Kundalini yoga teacher, a wealth Iranian woman, (80 years young) and he slept with her within 1 month of the introduction. She was so excited her yoga class was treated to "I got it for 6 hours, or I got it for 8 hours" Now she has gifted him with Porsche, and a Morris Minor, buying into property deals from other of the Curezone community and other expensive gifts, as her appreciation. She calls him her lover- but where does that leave his girlfriend and his other women patients who also share their beds with him? Don has monetary categories - the most generous and those no longer ferttile can aspire to lover status. The women who he helps earn a living are friends. His obvious flattery attracts those with large egos who are driven to brag and post about intimacies online, and in their respective businesses

Chip Brown is a thorough writer. Perhaps providing too much commentary on an already confusing subject. I was hoping for some unbiased journalism on a notoriously subjective topic. Instead, Brown only nods politely in the direction of objectivity as he jumps headlong into the metaphysical and drags the reader down with him. Although he takes us through the time and space of his life, ultimately we arrive where we began - more confused than ever and wondering how such a professional journalist could ever really conclude that extraterrestrials had implanted a "bug" behind the right eye of his ethereal body.
