A visionary collector,
By Claude Reich (Florianopolis, Brazil and Paris, France) - See all my reviews (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Against the Grain (Hardcover)
This book was published on the occasion of E.Broida's gift to the Moma. His collection was formed in the 70's and 80's and is especially impressive for the many paintings by Philip Guston. The book starts with an interview of the late collector who describes how he discovered Guston and why he started collecting him, at a time when many art critics were disparaging the great painter for having returned to figurative painting.A must-have for any Guston fan. If you don't like Guston, there are other good artists in the collection and it is also a portrait of a visionary collector. |
