This CD (album at the time) was my introduction to Ms. Snow back in the mid 70's. She was a guest on Saturday Night Live and sang "The Married Man". I fell in love with the voice and went out the following day to purchase the album. The entire album rocked and I played it to death! Her voice and style were so distinctive. By the early 90's my turntable finally wore out and my CD collection was expanding. I could never find this particular album in CD form. I purchased a lot of Ms. Snow's projects and always kept an eye out for "Against the Grain". I finally found it the other night and was overjoyed. It's on order as I type this review. All the the songs on the disc are first rate. My favorite is "Shoreline". Snow sings it in a wistful/longing style and it mirrored my life at the time. The song has always had a special meaning to me. I'm still crazy about "The Married Man" as well as L.A. I can't wait to listen to one of my favorite albums (now CD) of the 70's again. Phoebe Snow is and will remain the bomb!

4.0 out of 5 stars Against the Grain, March 30, 2011

My wife had this Vinyl LP many years ago and unfortunately it broke. I will not go into how but let's just say I have been reminded of this incident for more than 25 years. She has pined for a replacement copy of this record since the incident happened, but unfortunately it has been extremely difficult to find the exact recording. However, her pining and my persistent in the search has finally paid off.

I was pleasantly surprised when browsing Amazon to find a CD version of the record, all be it in limited supply. I ordered the record and it arrived in excellent condition to our house situated in the most beautiful region of Germany, the MOSEL. My wife is over the moon with the record and I am finally relieved of the burden I have carried. Thank you Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Look at the youth, November 2, 2008
This review is from: Against the Grain (Audio CD)
Step by step, she catch the highlights, From the first album to the manhood. Not the same voice and the performing, spirit of the time, she brought hope to the real magnitude of music. "Every night" is song for 'crying', "He's Not just Another Man" is powerfull message to the lonesome, "In my life" is roadsong for a relaxing, "Mama Don't break down" is a continous story of growing up, "Keep A Watch On the Shoreline" is a recall of youth. . .By this CD and be young and stay that forever.
