Editorial Reviews

Review

Graceful, lovely Melissa Grant loves Snickers, her business, and writing poetry. As an African American woman she's achieved her dreams and built MTG Executive Search Firm on her own, without her father's money. When she is faced with loosing her company she has two choices--go to her father or accept the Hayes--Roundtree company as a client. The prestigious company will not only save her from immediate financial problems but promises to increase her business in the future. The problem is the Roundtrees have been bitter family enemies for generations. Despite this, Melissa believes her family's wrath would be easier to deal with than the humiliation of having to ask them for help. That was before she met Adam Roundtree, a man full of blatant, blistering masculinity who makes no secret that he desires more than Melissa's expertise at business. When both Adam and Melissa relocate to their home town, the heat from their families and between them explodes. Melissa risks making her already unhappy relationship with her father worse, and facing his accusations of betrayal. Adam must face his own family and their accusations that Melissa is responsible for sabotage in their Leather and Hide company.Together, they fight the accusations of betrayal, and a past that promises to ruin their future, Against All Odds. Gwynne Forster has created a corporate Romeo & Juliet in Against All Odds! Big business, forbidden love and betrayal....Against All Odds is a perfect read on a rainy night! Family feuds and secrets thought long buried propel these wonderful characters! Hero Adam Roundtree offers Melissa what every woman wants--unconditional love!Denise Camp -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. All rights reserved -- From Literary Times

3.0 out of 5 stars Give and Take, Almost solved....no not yet, November 4, 1999

This review is from: Against All Odds (Arabesque) (Paperback)
Against all odds was very hard to start. It smelled of individualistic attitude for the two leads in the story. Ms. Grant and Mr. Roundtree had an unspoken fire instantly but family ghost hexed the impending union. There were so many twist and turns that the reader could and does get dizzy. I must admit that as I commited large blocks of time to reading this work, it became easier to understand the ins and outs of the author. I can say with all honesty that for a long commute or bus ride this will keep you riveted. Just don't put it down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gwynne Forster Triumphs -- Whatever the Odds, June 29, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Against All Odds (Arabesque) (Paperback)
Three reasons I love Gwynne Forster's novels: 1. a larger-than-life hunk of a hero, as well known for his integrity as his good looks. 2. A sexy, spirited heroine, who is the perfect match for her guy in both brains and beauty and 3. sparkling, sassy repartee that makes you wish you knew a man who'd say those things to you. Against All Odds has that and more. Ms. Forster elevates the familiar feuding families plotline to a fine art, weaving a sensuous story you simply can't put down. An intense, riveting read from start to finish.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's time for the Family Feud!, October 16, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Against All Odds (Arabesque) (Paperback)
The Montagues and Capulets of "Romeo and Juliet" and the Hatfields and McCoys could have learned a few things from the Hayes-Grant and Roundtree clans. This Black version of the family feud has been festering for generations. Inevitably, Adam Roundtree and Melissa Grant fall in love. To absolutely no one's surprise, the families don't approve. What IS surprising is Gwynne Forster's ability to take an extremely predictable premise and turn it into a very enjoyable story -- against all odds.
