5.0 out of 5 stars Gwynne Forster Triumphs -- Whatever the Odds
Three reasons I love Gwynne Forster's novels: 1. a larger-than-life hunk of a hero, as well known for his integrity as his good looks. 2. A sexy, spirited heroine, who is the perfect match for her guy in both brains and beauty and 3. sparkling, sassy repartee that makes you wish you knew a man who'd say those things to you. Against All Odds has that and more. Ms...

Against all odds was very hard to start. It smelled of individualistic attitude for the two leads in the story. Ms. Grant and Mr. Roundtree had an unspoken fire instantly but family ghost hexed the impending union. There were so many twist and turns that the reader could and does get dizzy. I must admit that as I commited large blocks of time to reading this work, it became easier to understand the ins and outs of the author. I can say with all honesty that for a long commute or bus ride this will keep you riveted. Just don't put it down.

Against All Odds has that and more. Ms. Forster elevates the familiar feuding families plotline to a fine art, weaving a sensuous story you simply can't put down. An intense, riveting read from start to finish.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's time for the Family Feud!, October 16, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Against All Odds (Arabesque) (Paperback)
The Montagues and Capulets of "Romeo and Juliet" and the Hatfields and McCoys could have learned a few things from the Hayes-Grant and Roundtree clans. This Black version of the family feud has been festering for generations. Inevitably, Adam Roundtree and Melissa Grant fall in love. To absolutely no one's surprise, the families don't approve. What IS surprising is Gwynne Forster's ability to take an extremely predictable premise and turn it into a very enjoyable story -- against all odds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Really, June 6, 2002
By
Beverly (jax, fl United States) - See all my reviews
Mrs. Forester is truly blessed to write the kinds of romances she does. I just finished reading Against All Odds. I enjoyed it tremendously. Adam and Melissa had a lot of turbalance in their lives because of a stupid family fued which didn't make a bit of sense and also because of their pride. It's been said that pride will kill you and at one point I thought their relationship was headed towards death door. Emily, Melissas mother, who had sacrificed her love for BH had a love that stood the test of time. But in the end, BH and Emily finally married and so did Adam and Melissa. This is a great book and a can't put down one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read, January 31, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Against All Odds (Arabesque) (Paperback)
In my opinion,Gwynne Forster is one of the very top romance writers writing today. And this book lives up to Ms. Forster's high standards. The writer from Tortoal British Virgin Islands is misled. Against All Odds is Forster's second book, published in 1996, and BEYOND DESIRE is her eleventh or twelth, I'm not sure which, published in 1999. So to say Forster should "go back" to writing as she did in Beyond Desire doesn't make sense. Good writers improve as they write. I enjoyed AGAINST ALL ODDS, I've read it four times from start to finish. It is a very literate book. If you're looking for something trite, don't read Forster. I have everything she's written, and I always get a great read.

MS. FOSTER SHOULD READ SOME REAL ROMANCE BOOKS BEFORE SHE ATTEMPTS ANOTHER NOVEL, IF THIS IS THE BEST THERE IS FORTHCOMING FROM HER PEN!! IT'S AS IF SHE'S AFRAID TO TOUCH ON WRITING ABOUT LOVE-MAKING, LET ALONE WRITE A SCENE ABOUT IT!! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. GO DO THE LAUNDRY INSTEAD!! I SUGGEST SHE TAKE SOME PAGES OF OUR MS.RAY, MS. JACKSON AND MS FORD'S BOOKS BEFORE PUTTING PEN TO PAPER AGAIN. TOO BAD YOU DON'T ALLOW LESS THAN ONE STAR RATINGS. THIS ONE WOULD GO STRAIGHT TO THE TOP WITH THAT!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Can love survive the family feud ?, November 19, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Against All Odds (Arabesque) (Paperback)
Two families in a family feud when love steps in. Adam Roundree and Melissa Grants families have been at odds for years. Will their love survive and what's the feud about? A heartwarming story you will always remember because they went Against All Odds to be with each other. This is a MR (Must Read ) to see how and why a family feud could last so long and the love that brought the familes together again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Wonderful Book by Ms Forster!, April 20, 2000
This review is from: Against All Odds (Arabesque) (Paperback)
I really enjoyed Melissa and Adam's story. Like some other readers think, it was truly a modern day Romeo and Juliet story. I Loved It! Keep up the good work Ms Forster!
