Book Description

February 1, 2006 0786426128 978-0786426126
Eight World War II battles are examined here from the perspective of the U.S. Army infantrymen who were facing German Panzers. The battles were chosen from those fought from August 1944 through January 1945, a time of rapid advances and intense combat. They include a variety of engagements: river crossings, defensive operations, assaults on towns, and others.

4.0 out of 5 stars US Infantry trying to survive German assaults, March 4, 2007
This review is from: Against the Panzers: United States Infantry Versus German Tanks, 1944-1945, a History of (Paperback)
An odd book: A semi-formal description of the phenomenon of US Army Infantry being assaulted by German Forces in selected actions. The maps are inadequate [nothing i've yet seen, has ever been adequate, so that's not a criticism, more a wish], the narrative reads like official award citations, since most of the named participants seem to have been medal-winners. The best are some of the non-official sources, interviews with participants and visits to the battleground are compelling; in one footnote, even humorous [cows used to confuse german tank, prompts "bovinatarian" response by TC]. I enjoyed it but would have liked it even more if the authors had written in a less dry style. Recommended for the combat buff.
