Book Description

April 10, 2012
Will freedom make Lola fall by the way side, or will it teach her what is really important in life? Omolola Aderemi, an intelligent well-groomed Christian girl, has dreams of becoming a medical doctor. Everything in her life seems to be going as planned until tragedy strikes. Omolola s beloved father dies. Her dream of becoming a medical doctor is threatened. Insistent on pursuing her dreams, she gets some financial assistance to attend the University she desires. Her journey through the university exposes her strength of character. Without the guidance of parents and siblings, she has to face the reality of peer pressure, lust and drugs. She has to make decisions herself and face the resulting consequences alone. Would she live a life different from how she was raised and conform to the popular way of life of students in the university? Or would she stay true to her parents love and god-fearing upbringing even though she feels pressured to fit in?

4.0 out of 5 stars A very touching story June 6, 2012
Format:Paperback
This book tells the story of Omolola, a young girl growing up in a middle-class Nigerian home. Quite intelligent and with most of her future mapped out, tragedy strikes and she loses her father. In a very direct and touching manner, Rita Okoroafor describes Lola's life after this tragedy and how she is able to cope. Life is not rosy for Lola and though she gets to go on to university, it is to a course different from one she had earlier intended.

In addition, she faces other pressures and has to find her own place amidst the confusion and freedom of life away from her home and family. This is a coming-of-age story with strong a moral and Christian foundation and the author uses very genuine scenarios of life in a Nigerian university to showcase the benefits of leaning unto God in all things.

Even though Lola stumbles, she is able to rise again and her story is a testimony to all who will read this book. I'm glad I read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars The good and acceptable and perfect will? June 5, 2012
Format:Paperback
This is a powerful book. The central character is engaging and we want to learn more of her. It is relevant to the age group she belongs to, university students, but also to those who should be influencing them. Some glimpses of conditions in Nigeria are also interesting.

It's not perfect! The dialogue can seem unnatural - but I don't know how a Nigerian family speaks. (If chapter two starts to put you off - keep going!) But this does not take from the effectiveness of the final product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rita well done! April 30, 2012
By Tamoh
Format:Paperback
I must say that this story is very touching and heart-warming. I was moved by the genuineness and humanness of the characters. If this is your first book I definitely feel you have a special gift for writing and I hope you write many more stories. I believe you've captured the essence of what it means to look to God in all circumstances and the real life trials and situations young people go through. The story reminds us that evil communication will eventually corrupt good manners and that no one is immune to temptation since we are only human. Lastly, everyone does have a past, which doesn't make us less lovable than anyone else since God forgives all sins and gives second chances. Overall a very lovely book!! Happy I'm one of the first to read it.
