Lord Edgware Dies: first published as Thirteen At Dinner in the U.S. in 1933
Stage actress, Jane Wilkinson, no longer wants to be married to her cruel husband, Lord Edgware. In fact, she has made it known publicaly that maybe she should take steps to kill him so she can marry again. Furthermore, she goes to Hercule Poirot to ask for his assistance. Naturally, M. Poirot cannot and will not accomodate her wishes but when shortly thereafter Lord Edgware is discovered murdered in his library all eyes look to Lady Edgware--except she has a rock solid alibi. Or does she? This case was one of the most difficult for Hercule Poirot, and almost went unsolved except for an overheard passing remark in the street.one evening. Everyone it seems, has a motive for doing away with the despicable Lord Edgware and everyone has an alibi. Who did it? And how? I really liked this particular story. Just when I thought I had solved the case for M. Poirot--an unexpected discovery would throw me off track. It kept my interest throughout. A must read!

This was a used hardcover copy, but it arrived in almost perfect condition. The book as usual was excellent, as all Christie books are. It is a five in one collection and well worth the price. the five stories are as follows:1. murder on the Orient Express: a story where Poirot travels on the famous Orient Express (incidentally a train Christie herself took) and solves a most baffling crime where a man is found murdered, with nearly 12 stab wounds. No one on the train seems to be a suspect since each of their alibis are given by others, totally unconnected with them in any way. It is upto the genius of Poirot to solve this crime. 2. Thirteen at Dinner: Lady Edgeware approaches Poirot and asks him to get her husband to divorce her so she can marry again. otherwise, I will have to go around and kill him myself she says. Very soon, Lord Edgware is found dead, but Lady edgeware has a perfect alibi - she was at a dinner party. Poirot as usual applies his "little gray cells" to unravel the crime and bring the murderer to justice. 3. The ABC Murders: It seems that victims are chosen randomly, according to a railway guide, and alphabetically, with nothing to connect them. Hercule Poirot can be the only one to see the connection and unravel a most ruthless crime. 4. Cards on the Table: Poirot thinks that Shaitana is playing a dangerous game when he shows poirot his "collection" of criminals. It may be dangerous warns poirot, but Mr Shaitana, always cocksure of himself, gets murdered. It is upto poirot to find out who, out of the four supposed "criminals who got away" is responsible for Mr Shaitana's death. 5. Linnet Doyle seems to have everything. But She still seems upset and scared and unhappy. Then she is murdered. IS it her husband, her lawyer, the thwarted girlfriend of her husband? it remains for Poirot to find out.

I love all Ahatha Christie novels, but the ones with the eccentric detective Hercules Poirot are my favorite. I purchased this used book as a gift for my husband as I wanted him to get accustomed to the author's work and we both were amazed by the great condition of the book. The item looks like new and was shipped within the time frame. I would gladly buy from this seller again!

I enjoyed reading these famous stories by Agatha Christie. I thought I had read them all before but I think I might have only seen the Orient Express as a movie. It was good to read the original text.
