4.0 out of 5 stars An entertaining hidden object game

First, a caveat. This is a hidden object game -- that is, game play consists of searching through various scenes to find a list of objects hidden in the landscape, while the story of "Death on the Nile" plays out in the background. This is a hidden object game -- that is, game play consists of searching through various scenes to find a list of objects hidden in the landscape, while the story of "Death on the Nile" plays out in the background. It is NOT an adventure game in which you interview suspects, collect evidence, and solve puzzles, like the other Agatha Christie games that have been published recently.

That being said, it does what it does quite well. The scenes are well designed and game play is challenging without being impossible. It's actually quite amusing -- as long as you weren't expecting an adventure game, that is.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ripped Off, May 8, 2009
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Agatha Christie: Death On The Nile (CD-ROM)
In the past I have purchased other Agatha Christie PC games: And Then There Were None, Murder on the Orient Express, and Evil Under the Sun and I enjoyed those games quite a bit. I bought this one expecting the same and if you look at the cover of Death on the Nile it APPEARS as if this game is going to be like the others. It isn't. It's a hidden picture game, a virtual Where's Waldo. The clues were so obvious and the game was over and solved so quickly I couldn't see the point in playing it. Never ever have I felt so ripped off!!! I would love to have my money back.

I purchased the previous Agatha Christie games: And Then There Were None, Murder On The Orient Express, and Evil Under The Sun and enjoyed all three adventure games. I thought that Death On The Nile was a lower-priced similar game in the series. It's not! I played this hidden object game before as a download. The cover makes it look deceptively like the other role-playing games. I've bought over a thousand items on Amazon.com and this is the first time I've felt ripped off.

After making several adventure games from Agatha Christie novels, The Adventure Company has switched things up and made a hidden object game out of "Death on the Nile." The result is a surprisingly fun little game.

In each round, players inspect three or four rooms at a time, trying to find a list of hidden objects. Most of the items are random, but some are clues which contribute to the murder mystery. Players can also question witnesses for more information, and in between each round is a little (very easy) puzzle that provides you with some kind of evidence - you may have to re-create a letter, for example, or test an unknown liquid.

Overall, this game is a lot of fun. Nearly all of the objects are reasonably disguised. I might not have found them all, but when I used the hint feature, my reaction was generally, "Oh, I should have caught that." The plot is a somewhat stripped-down version of Christie's novel; most of the subplots are gone, but it will probably entertain people who aren't familiar with the story. I particularly like the way that the objects in each person's room helped define their character - Colonel Race, for instance, has a hunting theme in his room, while Miss Bowers has a lot of medical objects. The music was also really well done, although the game probably could have used more variety.

If I have one complaint about this game, it's that it is really a bit short, considering the price tag. The game was originally available as a download, and it shows: there is no spoken dialogue (just subtitles), very little animation, and only 12 game levels. It seems like $20 is a bit much to pay for that. Still, if you like Agatha Christie and/or hidden object games, this is a great way to spend an afternoon.

1.0 out of 5 stars DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY, May 23, 2009
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Agatha Christie: Death On The Nile (CD-ROM)
This game was awful. I, like a few other reviewers, had bought all of the Agatha Christie games and I expected this one to be the same. The box is very misleading, it makes you think this game is like the others but it is not. If you love hidden object/puzzle search games, then you'll love this one. I still played it anyway b/c I spent $20 on it. I beat it in just a few hours. It was so easy, it was pathetic. They had no spoken dialogue or anything. The box says "question many suspects." You can't question a cartoon box that doesn't speak. It didn't even let you "investigate" every suspect. If your really bored and have a lot of money then go for this game, if not, then spend your money on something that is interesting. This is a big two thumbs down, I wouldn't have given it any stars but I had to give it at least one!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Previously purchased this game as a download on Yahoo Games, October 20, 2008
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars

This was a fun game to play when I purchased it and downloaded it from Yahoo Games. I thought the name sounded familiar but I thought it was similiar to the previous Agatha Christie games such as "And Then There Were None", "Evil Under The Sun" and "Murder on the Orient Express." If you like looking for hidden objects and solving other neat puzzles, then you will enjoy this game. I will give this copy to my neighbor to enjoy.

Like others have mentioned I also expected this game to be like the previous Agatha Christie adventures. But alas, it was more like Mystery Case Files.

It was definitely wasn't what I was expecting, but since I personally enjoy hidden object games (like MCF etc.) I did enjoy it.

Though I do wish that they would have spent more time making it. Like instead of having the user READ the dialogue I wish they would play it too. And actually show us what's going on, rather than have us looking at a basic picture. Overall wish there was more interaction.

To conclude, if you like hidden object games, than this is a pretty good one, but if you're looking for something like the previous adventures look somewhere else.

I first played this when I was sick and couldn't get out of bed. It was a fun way to occupy my mind to pass the time. If you don't like hidden object games, you probably won't like this. But this is one of the better ones--the best one being, in my opinion, Peril at End House.

Agatha Christi's Death on the Nile is not a game - no step by step figuring out 'who done it'. It is merely a hunt for the hidden objects and reading (I have read the book). Having bought all the other Agatha Christi games, I was expecting the same quality. There should have been more information provided on the item.
What a disappointment. I always looked forward for the next game to come on the market but now I will not buy another. It is a total waste of time and money.

I loved the first three Agatha Christie PC games: And Then There Were None, Murder On The Orient Express, and Evil Under The Sun. These games were wonderful and I was expecting this game to be just like these three. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!! This is just a seek and find game, similar to the child's books I Spy. If you are looking for great Agatha Christie games, buy the Agatha Christie: Triple Murder Mystery Pack.
