Editorial Reviews

Now remastered & in original U.K. broadcast order.

As seen on PBS’s Masterpiece Mystery!

Agatha Christie’s marvelously mustachioed Belgian detective returns in the second series of the hit PBS mystery. Played to perfection by David Suchet, Hercule Poirot uses his formidable "little grey cells" to outwit criminals and fellow sleuths alike. These remastered adaptations bring the splendor of Art Deco-era Europe to brilliant life. Also starring Hugh Fraser (Sharpe) as the genial Captain Hastings, Philip Jackson (Robin of Sherwood) as Chief Inspector Japp, and Pauline Moran as Miss Lemon.

5.0 out of 5 stars More of the classic 50 minute short stories! November 20, 2011
Format:Blu-ray
With the great success of series 1, LWT (London Weekend Television) quickly continued with an equally successful series 2.
This time, along with Agatha Christie's Poirot short stories, one Agatha Christie Poirot novel story was included, creating a double length episode. This longer story allowed for a more intriguing mystery.
The rest of the season was filled out with Poirot short stories, but the 'pilot' of the longer double episode showed that LWT was capable of producing the Poirot Novels for television.
Series 3 would dramatize another novel, and series 4 would would feature 4 novels and no short stories.

ITV, the current owners of the LWT programs, went back to the original film elements and remastered them in HD. Yes, there are subtitles.

Agatha Christie's Poirot series 2 (50 minutes unless noted)
11 2-01 07/Jan/90 Peril at End House (2-hour episode)
12 2-02 14/Jan/90 The Veiled Lady
13 2-03 21/Jan/90 The Lost Mine
14 2-04 28/Jan/90 The Cornish Mystery
15 2-05 04/Feb/90 The Disappearance of Mr. Davenheim
16 2-06 11/Feb/90 Double Sin
17 2-07 18/Feb/90 The Adventure of the Cheap Flat
18 2-08 25/Feb/90 The Kidnapped Prime Minister
19 2-09 04/Mar/90 The Adventure of the Western Star

While 16mm will never look as sharp as 35mm, if you directly transfer the original 16mm camera film elements they will always look better & sharper than the older DVDs mastered from 16mm film copies made form 16mm negatives. The camera originals are sharper than the copies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Quality Video March 11, 2012
Format:Blu-ray|Amazon Verified Purchase
The Blue-ray versions of the Poirot 1-hr. episodes are markedly better than the DVD version in resolution and color, whether watched on a flat screen TV or via a projector. I'm glad I found the Blue-ray versions halfway through building my Poirot Series library.

5.0 out of 5 stars review of series 2 of Poirot mysteries March 5, 2012
Format:Blu-ray|Amazon Verified Purchase
David Suchet is priceless in his role of Poirot. We enjoyed every story in the Series 2 collection. We started watching these mysteries on PBS and had to have our own to view and review every story. We enjoy the roles of Capt. Hastings and Miss Lemon. We miss them in the Poirot movies. Long live Agatha Christie's Poirot. We recommend these DVDs for any mystery fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining.
I wish the episodes were a bit longer.
Some of them were too short and predictable. But I still think they are very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Entertainment!
Suchet's Poirot is the epitome of the genre. And the productions in this series, all set in the Art Deco mode of the 1930s, are superb in every detail. Read more
