Book Description

June 1, 2002
Ann Hazard's third Baja book, Agave Sunsets, is a collection of 50 stories that are guaranteed to transport you to magical places south of the border and introduce you to characters you’ll never forget.

Ann brings Baja and its inhabitants—both Mexican and expatriate—to light, in a spirited, relaxed and often hilarious way. She erases the barriers between cultures and accurately depicts her Mexican friends as the down-to-earth, generous folks that they are. This book is guaranteed to implant in you un corazón Mexicano--a Mexican heart.

The tales span four generations, beginning in the 1890s when Ann’s grandfather fell in love with this incredible peninsula. Each one has a color photograph. Here are a few: "Hat Parties, Chili Cook-offs and Friday Nights at Gordos," "Boys ‘n Beer in Baja," "Dirt Roads in the Dark," "Squatting in an Abandoned House with Four Teenagers," "The Cure for Boof Burnout," "Hussongs—Birthplace of the Margarita," "The Magic of Movie Making South of the Border," "Stumbling Upon a Stairway to Heaven," "Sitting on the Edge of the Bay," "Saving Baja Dogs and Cats," "I’ve Got Todos Santos on my Mind" and "Following the Whale Trail."

This review is from: Agave Sunsets: Treasured Tales of Baja (Paperback)
A woman of adventure, Ann Hazard has been exploring Baja with her family since childhood. Her memoirs cover five decades of travel and mention of over 24 enchanting locations. Her writing style is not only entertaining but rich in travelogue and history complete with personal stories and photographs. I particularly enjoyed the chapters in East Cape; a place which has captured our hearts. It was fun reading about Spa Buena Vista and the local expats then seeing the fishing photos of her father (Togo Hazard) on the walls when we were there. Thanks to Ann's stories she has put baja on the map on a more personal level.
