I don't play a lot of games and I am a new Mac user as well. This plays great on my new MacBook Pro, 2.6 GHz, 4 Gb RAM, 512 video RAM, 200 Gb 7200 rpm drive, 17 -inch glossy screen Hi-Res. Smooth video and action. No problems what so ever.

For all of us that just don't like the newer Age of Empires this is the game that we fell in love with. In depth gameplay but not too hard so anyone could learn to play. I feel the problem with a lot of these types of games is that they outsmart their own intended audience. This is not the case for AOE 2, great strategy game!

I've always been a big fan of AOE, and I'm glad that I'm still able to continue playing, even though I've switched over to a Mac.

As far as quality goes, this game is still as awesome as I remember it. It's a lot of fun, the graphics show up nice, it's not bad. However, I do have a few problems when I try to make my screen bigger. The program shuts itself down, and I have to actually restart the game to begin playing again.

However, other than this minor fault, the game is still a great play. Definitely a recommendation to anyone considering buying it.

I got this game back in April and i have to say im very pleased with it. It came in a great package and works perfect on my computer. The only thing bad i can really say about this game is that it can take up a lot of your time :). Excellent game to play!

The game is fantastic it's a great classic RTS, but for some reason I can get it to run I high res only 800 x 600 otherwise it crashes about 2 min into a skirmish or mission.

This is an amazing game, and i played frequently played the windows version when i was using Windows. However, the Mac version does not work on Intel Macs, only the old PPC processor.

Age of Empires II, Gold Edition is a fun and exciting game. It is very versatile, has lots of great features, game types, civilizations, and tons of in-game complex strategies, units, technologies, and buildings. Although the graphics are not nearly as good as modern RTS games, it still has an epic feeling to it (the same also goes with the music). Key features include: historical campaigns and new historical single scenarios, pro-level recorded games that come with the product (great for improving your strategies), and the addicting Random Map games. Please note that I haven't tried the multiplayer, but but I believe it's through GameRanger, so it should be good. I had this for PC, and now that I'm a Mac, I had to get it.

Other pros:
Scenario editor is easy to use
The Conqueror's expansion pack is included, pus Gold Edition content

Other cons:
Graphics/music are outdated by now in their quality
Need to re-map some hotkeys if you don't have a full keyboard (such as if you're on a laptop).

If you don't know Age of Empires II it's time for you to know it! This game is amazing, but take your time to know the game. The 1st CD, the Age of Kings is the best, the other one not as much fun. The only thing I warn the Mac users is that there might be some compatibility problem with Lion. It worked perfectly well with my Snow Leopard but it stopped working when I updated to Lion. It's been a while since I tried again to install the game again, but maybe the Lion update now allows it to play this game. If you're a Lion user check it out before buying. I didn't rate it less then 5 because the game is great and it's not Microsoft's fault for it not working because the Lion update made by Apple is who screwed it up. Hopefully it will work soon!

BEWARE, I BOUGHT THIS GAME AND AFTER SEARCHING WHAT WAS THE PROBLEM WITH THE INSTALLATION I FOUND OUT THAT MAC WITH SYSTEM LION DOESN'T RUN POWER PC, THAT IS
NECESSARY TO RUN THIS GAME.

NOW I WANT TO RETURN IT AND IT'S OUT OF DATE!!... INCREDIBLE

I used to have it but lost the copy so bought new. I just bought AOE III as well.
