This review is from: The Age of the Flower: Poems (Hardcover)
A life lived to the fullest, with husband, family, grandchildren, animals, and travel. With joys, despairs, terror, gestures and acts of love, dreams, awe, and beauty. That is the feast Helga Sandburg spreads before us as she exhibits the full spectrum of her life to us in direct, honest, and compelling fashion. After two marriages, which she "walked away from," she finally met Barney, the man meant for her. In this intensely personal book of poems she celebrates their life together, and mourns their separation by his death. Indeed, they became each other's obsession. The fine fabric of family provides a rich and resonant background--as well as the foreground--for these delicate verses, the "small pink roses" of her life. These poems are sensitive and accessible, exuding a fully lived life from their pores. For those who like thoughtful poetry that can be related to one's own personal thoughts and experiences, I highly recommend this collection of perceptive verses. |
