5.0 out of 5 stars Stupid World, May 9, 2006
This review is from: Age of Goodbye (Audio CD)
Why am I reviewing such an expensive album? Because it's the only way I can review Andy Pratt. Why would I want to review an absolutely unclassifiable artist like Andy? A lot of other reviewers have raved about his Resolutions collection. But I think this (and some of his other work) is/ are better. Is this his best album? Not to me. That would be Motives, originally released on record by CBS/ Nemperor. One of my most played albums of all time.

This would likely be second. It's a remastered rerelease of a Dutch album called Not Just for Dancing that might be his most techno, along with a five song e.p. (extended play) record called Fun in the First World (here tracks 10-14). Piano man/ keyboardist Andy whines, growls, croons and whispers his way over minimalist music and offbeat rhythms with quirky lyrics like this: I'm living in a stupid world, going from girl to girl" (Stupid World) or "We're having fun so please don't come" (Fun in the First World). There's also a cover of George Harrison's "I'm Only Sleeping" (Andy has recorded a rare album of all cover songs that's quite difficult to track down) and two bonus tracks. There was also a record called Heaven and Earth released that had some of the tracks from Motives on it.

I found Andy in a record store where the staff had put a sticky note on Motives and wrote a note saying how great they thought it was. This is a chunk of change to shell out for an album you've never heard (even if it is essentially one and a half albums). But if you want something entirely different and do hear a cut and like it and all that... you may like me and the record store staff be won over.
