Editorial Reviews

Review

Role play gamers can re-enact the immortal tales of the golden age of Greece! The heroes of Greek mythology (Hercules, Odysseus, Hector, and Achilles) are the most enduring and popular figures of legend. The Age of Heroes: Campaign Sourcebook presents historical reference information as valuable and entertaining source material for creating AD&D campaigns based on the glorious exploits of the Greek city-states. -- Midwest Book Review

4.0 out of 5 stars Ancient Greece for AD&D . . . almost., January 3, 2000
This review is from: Age of Heroes: Campaign Sourcebook: Greece (Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd Edition) (Paperback)
This Campaign Sourcebook is an expansion for the AD&D system that contains information for running a campaign set in ancient Greece. Included are chapters on the following subjects: Greek history; character design, including kits and the use of magic; Greek life; available equipment; gods, heroes and myths; and adventures. The book contains a wealth of information, including what you would need to run a historic campaign (reality, no magic) or a fantasy one.

Unfortunately, this book is seriously crippled by what it does not contain. When discussing possible races for a fantasy campaign, the book references several found in old Dragon magazines, obviously assuming that the reader has access to those materials. The discussion of kits is mostly a list of kits found in other works, and other sections reference data found in other items. Therefore, this work is far from complete, requiring the reader to possess far too many other TSR products.

That said, I did like the book, and I am glad that I bought it. (3.5 stars.)
