Editorial Reviews

Formed by brothers Trevor and Matt Wentworth when Trevor was only 11, the band signed with Epitaph a few years later and rapidly began to build their profile, touring alongside Saosin, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Attack Attack, I See Stars, From First to Last and Four Year Strong among others. Their youth created a huge internet buzz, but when fans came out to see the band they were blown away by the power of the music and the maturity of the writing.

I've never heard of this band until I listened to their latest album. Coming for a fairly picky audiophile I feel it's well tracked, well put together and the recording quality is pretty high.

I want my music to be without vocals and instruments that are thrown together haphazardly and everything blasting at the same time, this band and album so far is just the opposite and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. I have yet to skip any tracks which is something rare especially for music as of late. One complaint I do have is that some of the lyrical content is a bit too predictable for my taste, but overall it's a really good album.

I can't say anything for the band themselves or their previous work as I have yet to listen to it but if this album is any indicator of their talent then I'm all ears for the the past catalog. There's a good amount of effects used within certain tracks like in the songs "Conspiracy" and "Invincible" for example but it's not overwhelming and compliments the rest of the instruments nicely.

I'd recommend giving it a listen on spotify before you grab a copy. For me though it's an easy sell.

Let me start off by saying this is my favorite album from Our Last Night. I own all their previous albums as well as Oak Island and the newer Oak Island acoustic (Both of which are in an even softer direction than Age of Ignorance but still good). I have just recently gotten into them so I am not a fan boy by any means. Usually when I find an album I enjoy I like to check out previous works to see the progression of the band. A lot of people do not like the direction they went with this album with less screaming and more melodies but I however think this is their best album to date.

1) Fate - 9/10 - This is the main single of the song and it is defiantly a strong song to start this album off with. The strings in the beginning are excellent. The message is strong with the ever so popular theme of depression and the path we chose to follow but executed is a very well manner.
2) Send Me to Hell - 8/10 - not a bad track. The drumming in this track are in a much softer direction than you might recognize from these guys but not in a bad way.
3) Age of Ignorance - 7/10 - This is one of my least favorite tracks on the album. Which is a compliment because the song is not that bad. This album is reminiscent of bands like autopilot off which really took me by surprise considering the previous tracks.
4) Reason to Love - 10/10 - The beginning of this song sounds like a loop made on a casio which is funny but really cool and catchy how it is executed. You will probably not like this song at first but after a couple listens will become one of you favorites like it did me.
5) Liberate Me - 9/10 - One of the heavier tracks on the album. Screaming is once again brought back but not too much as melody and clean vocals still dominate this track.

I love this band deeply. Thier music is fluid and soulful yet still a deep blend of rock and melodic sincerity. This album really tugs my heart and mind into it with not only the music but the lyrics, the thoughtfulness and meaning put behind them. One of the best albums I've bought in a while.
