Pure energy as only Europe can do...,
By J.R.H. "digitalcontradiction" (Holden, MA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Age of Love (Audio CD)
I have recently begun to listen to electronica/techno/trance and heard about this CD. I purchased this CD and was more than impressed with it! From the get-go to the last note, Scooter shows their true talent. If you like CDs like Digital Empire's Electronica's Best Vol. 1 and 2, then you MUST get this CD!! Scooter and other European artists put most American-born electronica/techno/trance artists to shame--save a few exceptions.

This CD is by far Scooter's best. They are very powerful, fast, and vibrant throughout the album. Plus Fire has to be one of the best dance/party techno songs ever. It is a must buy. SCOOTER RULES!

High energy and wonderful MC!,

I adore Scooter, it's incredibly upbeat and energizing. The MC talks through a lot of the songs, which I really love. There are some slow songs that threw me off a bit, but they will grown on you. If you like High energy trance then this is perfect for you!

TURN UP THAT BLASTER!!! ~ Age of Love,

"Age of Love", released in 1997, concluded the first chapter of Scooter and keyboardist Ferris Bueller left the band after this album to pursue a solo career. He was replaced by DJ/remixer Axel Coon, who had already been working with the group for some time now. "Age of Love" is arguably one of Scooter's best albums ever, and is fascinating because this group's music was so ahead of its time when they released it. In this work, one can begin to even hear the influence Axel Coon would later have on the band, transcending some of the older, more traditional "happy hardcore" music to a more modern, dreamy sound. This album sounds like it could have been written today, nine years later, with technology from almost a decade ago and it still sounds musically very professional.
1. INTRODUCTION: This one-minute prelude is a lead-in to the next track, The Age of Love. 2. THE AGE OF LOVE: One of Scooter's most famous songs ever, this track samples from the Terminator II theme. Not surprising, considering Scooter rips off so many other artists for so many of their songs. Featuring classic H.P. Baxxter MC-ing/rapping/yelling, our platinum-blonde-dyed-hair-man talks of unity instead of fight and the age of love before the other-worldly theme sets in. A great piece of music, The Age of Love is a timeless Scooter song. 3. SHE SAID: She Said is not so great but still has an interesting melody, a bit more passive than the rest of the tracks. 4. FIRE: Another well-known Scooter song (one of their singles), Fire is unique in its use of an electric guitar for the main melody, playing a great riff that really pumps you up. I've noticed in the music industry there is a big clash between electronica/dance and rock. This song unites both genres into a great musical work that even the most hardcore rock fans could not turn away. 5. DANCING IN THE MOONLIGHT: A personal favorite of mine, this song is very melancholy but beautiful in contrast to Fire and most of Scooter's work. With poetic lyrics for a change, the chord progressions in this song are heart-wrenching combined with the techno beat. A hauntingly beautiful melody, "Dancing in the Moonlight" may not be one of their most well-known songs, but I definitely recommend hearing it. 6. FOREVER (KEEP ME RUNNING): This song features some guy singing "Keep me running" over and over again. In this sense, the song is ultimately repetitive, but has a great opening on a harpsichord that is repeated on the synthesizer throughout the rest of the piece. 7. HIT THE DRUM: This song is another hardcore Scooter song. Featuring a voice saying, "S. C. double-O. T. E. R. infect ya!", this song starts off a bit boring but when the main part initiates and H.P. breaks out yelling some of his most awesome lyrics ever, you can't help but jump up and down on the dance floor! Wicked song! 8. DON'T WASTE NO TIME: This is a true pump-up song. The techno pulse is reminiscent of "Chateau" by Rob Dougan from The Matrix Reloaded. Only difference: this is better. H.P. Baxxter sings his lyrics pretty fast in this song. There are string interludes with muffled drums in the background, which add to the pure awesomeness of this song. This song has actually inspired me to go run ten miles and I sung it in my head for all ten. "Don't Waste No Time" is probably one of Scooter's best and most creative songs ever written. 9. TONIGHT: Ok, "Tonight" can only be described as odd. While it features typical string-synth chords and a modern beat, there is a dreamy-sounding woman that sings strange lyrics. While it is still a good song, being a DJ this isn't the sort of song I would play at a nightclub or anything. 10. RETURN OF THE FUTURE: I think that this is probably the least interesting track on the album. A trance song, it features a rather repetitive theme that just doesn't work for me. Maybe others will disagree; however, it just doesn't come across as a very dramatic song (with drama being an element that Scooter is particularly good at). 11. LEAVE IN SILENCE: This song has brought tears to my eyes. This is an old Depeche Mode song from the early 80's. H.P. Baxxter, once again, as he did in "Break it Up", does a wonderful job of becoming a beautiful singer who brings emotion and expression to the memorable lyrics. Having never been much of a Depeche Mode fan, I have to say I absolutely LOVE this song. It shows that Scooter has other creative talent besides hardcore techno. Ballads like this, Break it up, and Eyes without a Face are a testament to the brilliant musicianship of Scooter. Leave in Silence is a great way to end an already great album. As stated above, Scooter clearly has the potential in all fields of music, not just techno, but love ballads, rock-style songs with guitars, 80's disco, and more. Their talent at being able to take others' songs, even bad ones (The Night is a perfect example of this) and turn them into remarkable songs that you want to rave to every night is a sign of great artists in the making. Perhaps I am romanticizing Scooter a little too much, but after I listened to them I realized that all other electronica and dance music is peasant rubbish in comparison. Few other bands and DJ's can match their standard. I look forward to seeing them produce more great music in the future.
