5.0 out of 5 stars Best Political Analyst of our Times, Mark Curtis
Mark Curtis is one of the best political analysts of our times and this is evident in his new book, "Age of Obama." His brilliant insights reflect his profound understanding of American politics and the way in which it is shaped by the residents of Main Street, America. 1.0 out of 5 stars Really disappointed!
I was looking for a book that would either verify or refute the claims made in "Game Change" by Times author Mark Halperin.

What I got instead was a book about what it was like to be an independent reporter on the campaign trail in 2008.

He refers to himself about 4 times on every page of the book. You even get to know his 16 year old daughter as she...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Political Analyst of our Times, Mark Curtis, January 17, 2009
This review is from: Age of Obama: A Reporter's Journey with Clinton, McCain and Obama in The Making of the President, 2008 (Paperback)
Mark Curtis is one of the best political analysts of our times and this is evident in his new book, "Age of Obama." His brilliant insights reflect his profound understanding of American politics and the way in which it is shaped by the residents of Main Street, America. He takes what could be a dry and complicated subject matter, for some of us, and breaks it down into delicious, easy-to-digest bites of knowledge. The book reads like a fascinating road trip. His style is reminiscent of Studs Terkel. This is a must read.

Mark Curtis shares with his readers a rare front row seat to "history in the making!" You will see our candidates behind the scenes as they vied to be the leader of the free world. Curtis captures the local color of each campaign stop by talking with main street folks and eating in their establishments. His readers will gain an intimate understanding of how America decides her leadership while touring America with him.

Readers will also begin to understand the impact of the emerging "new media" on our lives. This is a fun book packed with information delivered in a engaging conversational tone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Understanding the Obama election, March 15, 2009

This review is from: Age of Obama: A Reporter's Journey with Clinton, McCain and Obama in The Making of the President, 2008 (Paperback)
This book by Mark Curtis as he follows the 2008 election process, is truly unique. It reads like a series of journal entries in the remarkable march toward the November election of a president. Mark writes with the clarity and understanding of an excellent political analyst. The book is filled with insight, understanding, and dotted with humor to make it a great read. The only thing that might have added to make it even better would be to have included colored photos!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, March 5, 2009
This review is from: Age of Obama: A Reporter's Journey with Clinton, McCain and Obama in The Making of the President, 2008 (Paperback)
I miss Mr. Curtis on KTVU. He is one of the most talented and insightful reporters working in journalism and this book is certainly a reflection of all that. Humorous, thoughtful, and objective, this is the finest analysis of politics I've read in quite some time. I look forward to reading more by Mark Curtis and hope some news manager that actually knows something about journalism and recognizes intelligence puts him back on the air soon. He is, however, bringing class and insight even to his Comcast interviews here in the Bay Area. This is a really fine book.

Can anything new and fresh be said about Election, 2008. Mark Curtis's book elicits a resounding "Yes!"

Aspiring journalists and politicians especially will want to read Curtis's vivid account of Campaign, 2008; but his reportage and analysis will also fascinate history buffs, as well as all survivors of the political marathon that culminated in the election of President Obama. With a keen eye on the candidates and a finger on the public pulse, Curtis--to use his own word--"ricocheted" from coast to coast, braving ice storms and tornadoes, with plenty of stops in "fly-over" country, visiting campaign headquarters, rallies, caucuses, polling places, and local "watering holes."

With his encyclopedic knowledge of political history, Curtis gives the reader valuable insight into the workings (and the foibles) of our electoral process. He is that rare journalist who treats all candidates with respect and without bias, even as he dissects their strengths and weaknesses. He is also a journalist fully embracing the "new media" and showing how it is changing the way we choose our leaders and the way it is changing how we get our news.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gumshoe account of the US political miracle, January 21, 2009
This review is from: Age of Obama: A Reporter's Journey with Clinton, McCain and Obama in The Making of the President, 2008 (Paperback)
Curtis showcases the rough and tumble of presidential campaigning and reveals its sublime miracle: the peaceful transition of power in the highest office in the land. What a great book to show my foreign colleagues at the United Nations the America that I know.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Reporter's Journey Worth Reading, January 17, 2009
This review is from: Age of Obama: A Reporter's Journey with Clinton, McCain and Obama in The Making of the President, 2008 (Paperback)
Mark Curtis offers keen insights into the interesting world of presidential politics. With a strong background as a news reporter and political analyst, Mark brings his passion and expertise to the forefront during one of the most compelling and historic campaigns in American history. What makes this account different is his genuine gift of relating to and understanding the hopes and dreams of everyday Americans. His stories from the campaign trail, while insightful and informative, also provide a glimpse of Main Street, America, and how "new media" has given a voice to the citizens of our country. I found his account of this pivotal time in our nation's history to be both an engaging and intelligent read.
