About the Author

Donna Gambino has been a licensed physical therapist since 1985 when she graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Her passion to help people become healthy, fit and maintain great posture throughout life has led her into work as a Pilates instructor, personal trainer, lecturer and author. She received her Pilates certification from the Professional Health and Fitness Institute and continues her education yearly to stay current in the field.

Gambino's broad background in fitness and orthopedic rehabilitation enabled her to develop the exercises in her first book On a Roll @ Home, Home Exercises for Core Strength and Massage on the Foam Roller. Now after years of adapting Pilates exercises for people of all ages, she has created a specialized program for older adults: Age Perfected Pilates, Exercises for Improved Posture , Strength & Movement.

As a mind-body fitness professional I find this book to be a great source of information for a safe and interesting home workout. I have recommended it to clients for their own home use and for inspiring their friends and family members to get a home fitness program on track.

I love the way this book starts out. You don't have to be a Physical Therapist to understand it. Ms. Gambino does that work for you. There are a few pages of easy-to-understand explanations about the (Pilates) techniques which will be used, about proper posture and basic rules about starting an exercise program. Then the book becomes more specific with great pictures to show exactly how to do the exercises. Small weighted & un-weighted balls are introduced to focus attention on the muscles being used and to challenge them. The exercises give an over-all workout, while strenghtening the spine and the abdomen. Almost anyone at any level could easily follow this book to improve strength and flexibility.
