5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely, May 5, 2001

I must disagree with J. Alcala's take on this album. It is true that many of the songs on the album sound similar but I think this only causes the album to have a very unified feel and hypnotic effect. Alcala was simply incorrect, however, when they claimed that every song has the same beat with no change whatsoever, although every song is about the same pace. "Art" contains a very different beat from the rest of the album while "Desert Heart" has a very nice baseline which is unlike any other in the album. I actually think that Sophya is on the wrong label, as the only other Metropolis artist they resemble is Rhea's Obsession. Sophya seems to have more in common with Projekt bands like Lycia and (earlier) Love Spirals Downward. Do not get this album expecting a dance-floor packer like so many Metropolis releases are. This is music for those introspective, candle light moods.

Uggggggh! This is one of the worst things I have ever heard. I usually don't write any negative reviews but I feel the need to warn anyone who is even considering the purchase of this album that it is full of monotony on top of more monotony. Every single song on this album has a steady rhythm with no CHANGE whatsoever. There are no glorious peaks of emotion, or any passionate human vocals, there is nothing to dance to or even to cry to. Nothing. Track one, Pale Blue Moon, seems interesting only because you have this certain anticipation for the rest of the album. By track two, Another Day, I realized there's something wrong here. I skipped over nearly every track, just trying to find one song, one song that had some kind of structure that could possibly be interesting. Nothing. Just about the only track that comes close to a real song is track eight, Inner Station, which Sophya recorded with another band, Minimal Compact. It's obvious that they required another group just to attempt a song, but my hopes for the best were quickly ruined after hearing about a minute and a half of the song. So, if you're looking for darkwave, I'd suggest you check out something by Clan of Xymox, Ravenous, or The Cruxshadows. Don't buy this. Please, don't buy this!
