Format: Audio CD
While the Telemann, Hertel, and Albinoni pieces on this album are staples of baroque trumpet repertoire (and they are admirably performed here), the canzonas and sonatas by Frescobaldi and Fontana are rarely heard. Schwarz makes use of copious ornamentation (cf. John Wallace playing Gabrieli), which, while usually tasteful, sometimes mars the otherwise clean playing of these pieces. Additionally, Schwarz's tone errs on the side of thin. Still, his performance is light and delicate, and he has able accompaniment.
