From Dayle Haddon, whose face has appeared on countless magazine covers, and who is the spokeswoman for L'Oreal's Plenitude line of skin care products, comes a one-of-a-kind beauty book aimed at helping women who are over 40 realize that their age is an asset, not a liability. 100 color photos.

Amazon.com Review

Dayle Haddon's face will be familiar to anyone who's seen advertisements for L'Oréal (or, for that matter, Max Factor, Revlon, or Estée Lauder--she's the only model to have had four major cosmetics contracts). She's also twice been named to Harper Bazaar's list of the 10 most beautiful women. But her life hasn't been a breeze. She stopped modeling to raise her daughter, but, when her husband died suddenly, she was forced back into the workforce. She found herself an unwanted commodity, unable to get modeling work or even a waitressing job. Dispirited and finally reduced to answering phones at a small ad agency, Haddon was shocked to find that a coyote in a Dodge commercial made more money than she did.

By returning to the cosmetics companies and throwing statistics in their faces--40 million women entering their 40s within the next few years--Haddon was eventually able to convince some of them to begin catering to this market--and to use her as a model. Clairol, then Revlon, signed her on, and a revolution of sorts began: older women are no longer ignored by the beauty industry.

Now much in demand again at fortysomething, Haddon's compiled her copious beauty wisdom in Ageless Beauty: A Woman's Guide to Lifelong Beauty and Well-Being. Like Bobbi Brown Beauty, Ageless Beauty is as much about self-esteem and caring for yourself--even spiritually--as it is about makeup and beauty. She reveals which specific products she swears by, where to buy them, and how to use them; but also offers tips on nutrition, and how to ensure a good night's sleep, boost your energy, even meditate. While models may not be known for their writing skills, Haddon's book is down-to-earth, fun to read, and sure to appeal. Add the more than 100 full-color photographs by the likes of Patrick Demarchelier and Herb Ritts, and you've got a perfect gift book.

4.0 out of 5 stars A useful book, March 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Ageless Beauty: A Woman's Guide to Lifelong Beauty and Well-Being (Hardcover)
Haddon's book contains a lot of useful information for those of us who are no longer in our teens, and points out some beauty mistakes we make as we age (such as putting our blusher on wrong or choosing the same colors we did in our 20's). This is one of the few books that addresses how to adjust your look as you age. She also gives good advice on health and exercise aimed at more mature bodies. Know going in that Haddon is beautiful, rich, and a spokeswoman for L'Oreal. Her photos are airbrushed so you don't see a single line in her face. Also, we don't all have the financial resources that Haddon has, so you have to adapt much of her advice to fit your budget. I also own the Beauty Bible, which is a better all-around book, but Haddon's book is more tailored to the needs of the over 40 crowd. It's a rich, lovely book with some gorgeous photos.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nothing New Here, March 27, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Ageless Beauty: A Woman's Guide to Lifelong Beauty and Well-Being (Hardcover)
I was very dissapointed with this book. If it were possible I would have given it zero stars. While the photographs are beautiful, the text has very little substance. Ms. Haddon isn't giving us any new information here that we can't find in most beauty and health magazines and on the internet. In fact some of her information is rather uninspired and some actually dated. Simply put, the lovely photographs that comprise this book are not worth $30.00. I would suggest the following titles as a very small sample of books with advise that really, really works. Some to consider: Menopause Without Medicine by Linda Ojeda, The Pilates Body by Brooke Siler, Bobbi Brown Beauty by Bobbi Brown, Facercise by Carol Maggio, and a video Callanetics by Callan Pinckney. Good luck.

5.0 out of 5 stars not just for 40 and up, February 9, 2000
This review is from: Ageless Beauty: A Woman's Guide to Lifelong Beauty and Well-Being (Hardcover)
Although this book is basically geared for women 40 and up, i found this book more than inspirational, it's my guide for life.Browsing the shelves for a book about fashoin, nutrition, and "how to live a stress free life" i came accross "Ageless Beauty", the book looked so attractive sitting on the shelf, i just had to have it! I read the book in one day, soaking up each word, all the while wanting to write to the author and tell her she had hit on all the personal aspects that i was dealing with! I am 25 and this book has inspired me more than any other book i've ever read, and college students have to read allot! :) not only have i taken all of her advise, but it's all worked for me! I've lost weight, i'm healthier and stronger than i was at sixteen and i've learned ways of taking control of myself in ways that don't just help me, they pamper me. I am a firm believer that allllll women deserve this! I can't imagine anyone not feeling the same as myself after reading this great book! She's entertaining and down to earth and i only wish that more women under 40 would read it, i am certain that there are more 25 year olds who need the advice and wisdom and the uplifting that Haddon's book can give!
