Book Description

An amiable corporate manager by day and a matchmaker whenever he can get around to it, Calvin Newsome's new dream job falls into his lap when he's recruited by a secret worldwide organization whose agents use uncanny abilities to empower and influence everyday downtrodden individuals. Disaster strikes, however, when an elaborate scheme leaves Calvin as a prime murder suspect...and his new employer is presumably to blame.

With the authorities on his heels and his life left in ruin, Calvin uses his new powers to blend in until a journey for freedom becomes a quest for peace. As the agency's rival organization threatens the security of all of earth's inhabitants, he teams up with unlikely allies and battles surprising enemies hellbent on unleashing their power in a twisted version of justice, innocent lives be damned.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good story March 23, 2013

At first I gave up. Then I came back and I am glad. Good story. Good Character Development. It is reminiscent of a TV show I think. But it is a fun read. SciFi, Mystery, excellent job by this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Heart-Pounding Suspense July 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Ultimate power corrupts ultimately. That's the overriding theme that, of course, the hero bucks. Harrison weaves a great tale of intrigue. I didn't know who to trust, and that kept the story suspenseful in all the best ways. The whole premise that people could shape shift and move things telekinetically in order to help people turn their lives around is awesome. Who wouldn't want to be able to do that? And yet we see that even do-gooders can be warped by power or greed.

I loved the hero, Calvin. Once I got past his willingness to jump into the Agency with so few questions asked (like Will Smith in Men in Black), I really liked who he became.

The only reason it's missing a star for me is that some of the inner monologues got a bit long. I saw another review that complained that there wasn't enough back story. That's nuts. If anything, I didn't need as much. But that said, I still kept turning the pages to find out what would happen next. I found the action resolution at the end very satisfying, but he left a few loose ends that I hope get tied up in the sequel--which I will definitely be buying!

4.0 out of 5 stars Exciting read! March 26, 2012

Not your average conspiracy theory novel! I was easily drawn in to the story, which has enough twists to keep it fresh and intriguing, but not too many to make it hard to keep up. The main character is relatable without being cliche, and the details of his life and personality are revealed with excellent timing throughout the novel. I was very impressed with Guy Harrison's debut novel, and I can't wait to read the next one! He is a clever and creative author developing his style and finding his voice, while providing an exciting read. Loved the story, love the cover, it fits the novel perfectly.
