5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Value
I needed to purchase a digital camera for my office and within a limited budget, the Agfa 780C fit right in. I personally own an Epson PC700 ($699 digital camera) that we've been using until our office bought one. Although the Agfa 780C isn't quite the same as my Epson (and I don't expect it to be), it is definitely a terrific value for under $200! Very easy to use, I...

One important thing to note that was not mentioned in the product spec's: the camera has four resolution settings, which take up variable amounts of memory. At the lowest resolution setting, the camera can store up to 96 photos, but the images are pretty lousy. 5.0 out of 5 stars Happy with my purchase, December 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Agfa ePhoto 780c Digital Camera (Electronics)
I shopped around a lot before I bought my agfa 780c, I picked it because it had the most features for the dollar and I wanted to stay under $250. I am happy with the camera. It came with software, the cable that hooked it to my PC, batteries, a leather pouch and another cable to show the pictures on TV. The first try uploading to the pc...it didn't work.. but my cable wasn't plugged in all the way. I have had no problems uploading the pictures since. Yeah--it ain't my dream camera--my dream camera was $300 bucks more! Again, I am very satisfied with my purchase.

Also- ordered it on Saturday night--recieved it Monday --with regular shipping! Thanks Amazon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent camera for the digital beginner, December 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Agfa ePhoto 780c Digital Camera (Electronics)
The Agfa 780C isn't the fanciest nor is it "megapixel", but for the price (in the 4th quarter of 1999) you're unlikely to find a better digital camera for beginners.

You may wish to invest in a couple of extras once you get going. I got a Delkin FlashPath SmartDisk Smart card floppy adapter - they're available on Amazon - and was worth every penny. I wasn't thrilled with connecting my camera to the computer. This way I can just remove the Smart media card and put it in the floppy adapter to move 'em over to my hard drive (much quicker, by the way).

You'll also want a 8MB or 16MB Smart Card. Agfa gives you a 2MB card, but you'll want to take zillions of pictures and will want the extra space.

Finally, you might want a set of NIMH rechargable batteries and a recharger - unless of course you want to purchase a new set of AA alkaline batteries. The Agfa 780C does pretty good with batteries, even if you use the LCD viewer a lot, but for the economy-minded a set of NIMH is essential.

In closing, do you really want to be spending $800 on your first digital camera when cameras of the quality/resolution of the Agfa 780C were selling at that price in 1997? If you've got the dough, then go for it. If you want to see what digital photography is all about, start with the Agfa 780C.

4.0 out of 5 stars HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, December 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Agfa ePhoto 780c Digital Camera (Electronics)
This is my first digital camera, and so far I really like it. The LCD is a little slow when you use it as a view finder. It's not like looking through a video camera where you see things as they happen. It takes a 1/2 second to update the screen. But for that price, I can live with it. I also had trouble uploading the images to 2 pc's, with the message "Can't establish connection to the camera." Until I read another review, did I realize I didn't have the cable attached to the camera correctly. Now it works great. You can take pictures while the camera is attached to the pc. You can use the pc as an LCD display as well. Neat feature. And keep in mind this camera is only 200 bucks; the resolution is not the greatest at any setting. It's good, but not perfect. Attach it to your TV! We love that. Instantly you can see pics on the tv from your camera. I shopped everywhere and looked at more expensive cameras and never found one at, or near this price that connects to the tv. Vinyl carrying case, wrist strap, all the cables needed, photowise software which is easy to use, are all included. If this is your first digital camera, then I highly recommend this camera. If you are looking for good pictures, this is the one for you. If you want excellent resolution, or clarity, from your camera, spend $600 for another camera. ORDER IT NOW!

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT VALUE FOR THE PRICE, December 7, 1999

THIS GIVES YOU FAIRLY GOOD RESOLUTION FOR THE PRICE. IT IS AN EXCELLENT INTRODUCTORY MODEL IN THIS PRICE RANGE. THE AGFA SOFTWARE IS ADEQUATE. BUT AN INTERMEDIATE USER WILL WANT A ZOOM CAPABILITY WITH BETTER SOFTWARE. I export my pictures into Photoshop to fix them

1.0 out of 5 stars Compatibility, November 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Agfa ePhoto 780c Digital Camera (Electronics)
I purchased this camera and sent it back after spending 10 hours trying to connect it to my computer. I tried 3 different computers and when I called customer support that is only available 8 - 5; M-F and they suggested that I had a bad cable but couldn't be sure so I would have to wait 7 - 10 days for a solution to my problem. (The cable is not available through any standard camera stores or office supply stores.) This obviously defeat the purpose of buying a digital camera so I sent it back after only having it for a week. I am very computer savvy and have been able to work with a Kodak camera with out any problem. My frustration came from the lack of customer service from the company to help me solve the problem quickly. I need the pictures for a marketing piece that deadlined the next day. I ended up going to Wolf Camera in Littleton where they were able to extract the pictures for me on a piece of equipment that would have otherwise cost me $100.00 just to retrieve the pictures.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great Camera Designed to Fail?, June 14, 2003
By
This review is from: Agfa ePhoto 780c Digital Camera (Electronics)
This camera was excellent for the price - on sale for $... I used it semi regularly, never dropped it, never exposed it to the elements (heat, liquids, etc.). It ate batteries like mad, but I was satisfied overall....except that it just up and died. New batteries didn't work; the display just flashed the 'empty battery' sign. I put a message on Agfa's website to get tech help. Never got any response except for the automated email they send when you enter a message. Overall -- descent camera that had a fatal flaw that Agfa apparently doesn't give a s**t about. Figured it would cost more to send to Agfa to fix it, so I chunked the f**ker in the trash. Thanks a billion, Agfa. I'll be sure to avoid your products in the future.
