This review is from: Aggressively Humble (Audio CD)
Wasn't sure what to expect with this one, having somehow never previously listened to any of Zachary Nelson's bands before, but after listening to the first 3 tracks alone (which are amazing and will get stuck in your head FOREVER), you will agree the purchase is well worth it. The combination of their vocal styles is very effective in these songs, especially 'super zodiac', where the shift between the two is startling. "tales from the crypt" sounds like it could be straight from his 'Astrological Straits' album, and he has a lot to say on that one, far more than any other song he's sang I think. Zachary Nelson's vocals, suprisingly, makes Zach hill seem more like a normal human because Nelson sounds much more strange, alien, psychedelicized, and even intentionally robotic or feminine when using pitch effects. I wish somebody would tell me the meaning behind the bizarre chorus in "pass out" because it doesn't make any sense to me at all. Well I guess it doesn't necessarily have to but I bet there's some random secret meaning. The second half of the cd shifts into a calmer, more trance-like style that is still very cool and interesting but no longer becomes that memorable compared to the first half. Overall another very good pairing with zach hill though.
