4.0 out of 5 stars This is punk rock!
This is a really good 11 minutes 8 seconds of music. It's short, to the point, and hits you in the head like Mark McGwire smashes a baseball. Remember this in not a hip hop album, it's a hardcore EP. Although it's not as good as say, Minor Threat or the "Damaged" days of Black Flag, it's still good hardcore music, better than almost anything that passes for...

2.0 out of 5 stars Beasties Don't Hit Par
The Beastie Boys are definitely one of the most innovative groups in the business. However, Aglio E Olio doesn't express their true talents. Sure, they have come out with some nice little hard rocker songs such as "Time for Livin'," where they turn the bass and everything up to full blast. It has become a side trade mark for them, but it is not their...

Although it's not as good as say, Minor Threat or the "Damaged" days of Black Flag, it's still good hardcore music, better than almost anything that passes for punk these days (hey Green Day, Offspring, or any of you other Southern California "power pop" bands take a listen, you might learn something). If you don't like your music hard, buy another B-Boy album. But if you yearn for early 1980s hardcore music, this is worth the 4 bucks!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, December 1, 1998
This review is from: Aglio E Olio (Audio CD)
these guys weren't always great hip-hop/rap artists...this album shows that...instead they were once great punk artists...this album is great. although the import gives you only one extra track - soba violence, otherwise the cd would cost 6 bucks...so in effect you are paying 17 bucks for 1:30 minutes, but it's worth it if you are a true fan like me!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Punk, May 30, 2000
By A Customer
This album is punk at its best. Any true Beastie Boys fan should have this in their collection. All the tracks are awesome. The CD is sadly lacking "Soba Violence" which appears on the import.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great crossover!, June 20, 2001

This CD is only 11 miniutes long, but it feels like more. This type of music sounds like mid 80's punk, but it's still good. The name of the CD, "Aglio E Olio" means Garlic and Oil in Italian.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real punk!, November 14, 2009
The beastie boys are the only hip hop I've ever liked and are the most talented in that damn genre. With Aglio e olio, the boys go back to their awesome hardcore punk roots, you must check this album out if you want some good punk rock music back. It shows that even tough the 80's punk were dead, the beasties still bring back the good old punk back since this was released in 1995. For fans of Minor threat, Black flag, and just any hardcore fan this is a must. It's really short, shorter than other punk CD's but is still worth checking out. For those who are only "hip hop" fans, i guess you've never heard the punk, even hard rock and some metal in Licensed to Ill huh? in all their hip hop albums they've never let their punk influence out. "You gotta fight for your right to party" is mainly a classic 80's hard rock anthem. So what'cha want from Check your head has strong guitar rock sound in it. Even the classic Sabotage is half punk rock, which would be consider a rapcore song. If i recall the only hip hop only album they ever did was probably To the 5 boroughs. Hello nasty lacked in punk but they still carried a rock sound. Beastie boys are REAL hip hop, but that's not what they have always been. So for true punk and early hardcore punk fans i suggest checking this EP out. This EP puts all the fake punk fans to shame in their game. They were the first hardcore band in the new york scene but since they went to do hip hop, i guess many people forgot where they started. This EP is not a must like say Black flag's Damaged, but if you want REAL punk, then get it man you won't be disappointed except for how short it is. And check their early hip hop albums too they're awesome. It's funny how Licensed to Ill is consider a rap album for metalheads (I've heard) or for those who just didn't like hip hop. But it doesn't only have beats, with Rick Rubin on board you know why it had some metal elements. And since the beasties were a bit different, it wasn't boring like other hip hop.

4.0 out of 5 stars If you like their "punk" rock tracks, you'll love this!!, July 16, 1998
By A Customer
This EP includes 8 new punk rock-style songs from one of the most innovative groups of the 90's. Although the songs are relatively short (the entire EP runs at just over 11 minutes), they are all full of the energy and creativity that only the Beastie Boys can create. I give this EP four stars
