3.0 out of 5 stars The Conclusion, Little More Than That, January 17, 2009
This review is from: Agnes Day (Paperback)
This is the third (and final?) book in the White Duck Saga featuring Gideon Sunday and his sister Tuesday (Yep. Tuesday Sunday.) Below I offer a basic plot summary; if you have not read the first two books, don't read it because it contains spoilers for those books.

The book begins shortly after where the second book has left off. Two of the Wamchu's wives are dead, and Tuesday is still a duck. Gideon still hasn't found Ivy, and the Wamchu is still on the loose.

In this round, Agnes, Wamchu's third wife, is taking her turn to raise a little heck. The problem? Agnes is the most dangerous, and her Day is coming. Apparently every 259 years or so, there is a day when a woman's power waxes to the point that she can take over the world. And Agnes most certainly wants to take over the world.

She, unlike her foolish husband and his other wives, starts with the Upper Ground, which is reasonable, since the resistance will be strongest there. Elsewhere, they will likely lay down and let her take over, because how can things get any worse?

So, Ivy, naturally, is the leader of the resistance, and she wants Gideon's help in dispatching the last two Wamchu. (Hey! That rhymed!) Although this book lacks any killing one line jokes that the second book had, ("Dammit Jimm, he's dead!" Classic!) it is overall more amusing. Tuesday spends a bit less time whining, but that is perhaps because the book is just under 250 pages.

The story moves along a lot better than the second book, but not as good as the first. The characters are more generally interesting in the second book, though, because everyone here is old news (unless I am forgetting someone - Ivy, Tag, Vorden Lain, Gideon Sunday, Red, the Wamchu and Agnes, Glorian, Whale) except one guy who kills everyone who doesn't know him, to become famous.

By the end, it becomes clear that "Lionel Fenn" does not know how to write a conclusion and that Gideon Sunday is an idiot. Although there are really amusing points along the way, particularly when Gideon wanders into a really violent flower garden (you'll understand if you read it).

Worth reading because its so cheap. If you find a copy at or below the original price, and you've read the first two, get this one too.
