Especially Useful In Adoration Chapel,
By Rosemary Brunschwyler (Homewood, Alabama, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Agony of Jesus (Paperback)
THE AGONY OF JESUS is essentially a meditation on the agony of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. It was first published in 1952 by Fr. Ezechia Cardone, O.F.M. to encourage increased devotion to Christ. The short booklet begins and ends with a prayer and is divided into four parts accompanied by teachings. It also includes seventeen photographs of Father Pio. I find the booklet to be especially useful in adoration chapel but of course it can be used virtually anywhere at anytime.

Mediation on the Passion of Christ,
By
This review is from: The Agony of Jesus (Paperback)
THE AGONY OF JESUS is a remarkable booklet of meditations on the Agony of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane by Saint Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, the stigmatist priest and monk of the O.F.M.CAP. This spiritual booklet was first published in 1952 and this new publication of booklets includes seventeen photographs inserted of Padre Pio. These meditations will be read often as it produces much good for the soul as you are drawn into union with God through the Passion of Jesus.

Short but profound writings. If you appreciated The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ, by Anne Catherine Emmerich, you'll appreciate this as well. Good for meditation.

I think for those of us who did not or do not have a seminary or particularly religious education or life approaching our Lord in an intimate and fluid way, either in listening or in devotions is intimating and it should be; however, reading Padra Pio and Saint Faustian and John of The Cross and Sister Teresa of Avila, and the other Saints, opens the door to what is possible of placing ourselves in the immediacy of Christ - if we are so blessed. The recollection of Jesus;s Agony in the Garden, always caught me at the falling asleep of the apostles, hence, I have always tried to give one hour to anyone and I try especially to do this for Jesus. I try. This meditation taught me more about Jesus than...what I and the apostles lost in those sleeping hours, but Padra Pio has captured for us and for The Greater Glory of God the Passion of Christ, while the rest of us were sleeping.

If you are looking for a deep meditation on the suffering Jesus endured in the Garden of Gethsemane before his physical suffering and death, this is it. And because it is from Padre Pio, you have the sense that this is the true account of what happened in the garden that night.
