This review is from: Agrarian Women: Wives and Mothers in Rural Nebraska, 1880-1940 (Studies in Rural Culture) (Paperback)
Having grown up in rural Ohio in a time when single family farms were disappearing I was curious to understand the history behind the lives of the women I knew. And while researching my own family history I found a branch that migrated west to Nebraska. Although this book focuses on Nebraska, the forces that influenced the lives of these women were the same across rural America.
This is no feminist manifesto. It presents the facts and lets them speak for themselves. The writing is first rate, readable, and accessible, and not at all burdened with academic jargon. |
