3.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad read but not a five star book.
I bought this book because it got such high reviews and have to say I was a bit dissapointed. It was frustrating for me during the whole book that the only thing keeping them apart was a silly misunderstanding. For some reason everyone else seemed to love it. I was expecting to be wowed.

This was an excellent book!!! To give a little background, Im a 34 year-old male who has never read a romance novel. It wasnt until I was in a car accident and had an extended hospital stay that I began reading OBanyons books. It was after hours, and the gift shop was closed, all my wife had for me to read was The Agreement. I was reluctant at first but decided may options were limited and read it anyway. After the first page, I was hooked. I couldnt put it down! I left the hospital a week later and immediately went to the bookstore to buy every Constance OBanyon book I could get my hands on. She writes historical based stories with the perfect mixture of action and romance. I feel that I am speaking for my gender when saying that any man could pick up this book and fully enjoy it. She is the only romance novelist I have read and the only one I will ever read. I highly recommend this book to anyone, male or female who is looking for a classic story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Where has this author been all my life!!!, February 13, 2002

I bought The Agreement because I like to read about Texas. Little did I know that I would have the great fortune of actully feeling like I was in Texas. I found Garret Lassiter a man of honor and soooooo sexy. Lauren was just the woman to tame him. She had him eating out of her hand on page one. I could almost picture the wilderness, the skies and Texas of old.
The Agreement goes on my self as "to read again, and again". If you haven't read this author, do yourself a favor and read The Agreement.

5.0 out of 5 stars I JUST DISCOVERED THIS SERIES, February 7, 2002
This review is from: The Agreement (Secret Fires) (Mass Market Paperback)
A friend of mine told me to read THE AGREEMENT, and I did with reservations. Thank you, thank you, Mary for introducing me to Ms. O'Banyon's book. I liked the story and the love between Lauren and Garret. The book is deep in plot and Ms. O'Banyon took me to Texas in the early days. Since this is a series book, I have bought the other three. I just finished The Wild One, and I loved it. I am ready to read The Half-Breed and I know it will be good too. So far, I have not been disappointed. I will definately buy all of Ms. O'Banyon's books.

The Agreenemt is a must read. I don't know how Ms. O'Banyon came up with such a wonderful plot, but I kept reading and turning the pages. My husband said he wanted dinner on the table and I told him to get it himself. I was reading. Lauren McBride's character was so real, I felt I knew her. And Garret is my kind of guy. Don't laugh, but I found honor and kindness in this book. Wish we could see more of this. Ms. O'Banyon, thank you for your honor and kindness.

4.0 out of 5 stars To Say I Love You, June 28, 2001
By
This review is from: The Agreement (Secret Fires) (Mass Market Paperback)
I read this book in one day. I simply couldn't put it down-which makes it almost deserving of a five star rating. There is no mystery to the plot, but the love story can not be faulted. The reader can feel Garret's torment in loving Lauren. He has to hold back his feelings of love until Lauren grows up and he can act upon them, yet remains devoted in his love for her. It was the first time I read a Constance O'Banyon romance and would gladly purchase another based on the quality of this hearthrob romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Western romance I've read in ages!, June 12, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Agreement (Secret Fires) (Mass Market Paperback)
I admit, I've always been a major Constance O'Banyon fan, but this book has got to be her best ever. Lauren McBride and Garret Lassiter are a fabulous pair and I found the story line riveting and very moving. This is the third book in the "Secret Fires" series that began with "The Wild One" by Elaine Barbieri, followed by "The Half-Breed" by Bobbi Smith. After "The Agreement" I understand comes "The Loner" by Evelyn Rogers. I love all of these authors and will treasure all four books in this series. DON'T MISS OUT ON THESE BOOKS!

5.0 out of 5 stars Obanyon just gets better with each book!!, March 3, 2002
This review is from: The Agreement (Secret Fires) (Mass Market Paperback)
I am a fan of this author and have been for over ten years. I have read all of her books(some of them many times. I love, love, THE AGREEMENT. I loved the story of the brothers and the family and how they overcame hardship. But most of all I loved Lauren and Garret's story. Their love was so intense it almost burned the paper. I can't wait until Mrs. O'banyon's next book comes out. Until then, I'll just reread The Agreement

5.0 out of 5 stars This is one I will put up for my daughter to read., April 15, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Agreement (Secret Fires) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have been a fan of O'banyon for years. The Agreement is just another example of her wonderful writing style, and her abality to make me see what she is saying. My daughter is twelve, and I am saving my o'banyon books for her to read when she is 18. I want her to enjoy and treasure the o'banyon books as I have. As for The Agreement, Garret is patent and waits for Lauren to grow up before he tells her he loves her. The book is written with sensitivity and a real knowledge of love between a man and a woman. I have a feeling Ms. o'banyon must have a deep love in her own life to be able to write about it with such a stunning impact!!! I am never disappointed when I read an O'banyon book, and I have them all. My very favorite is Once Upon A Time.

5.0 out of 5 stars I did not want this book to end, March 14, 2002
By
This review is from: The Agreement (Secret Fires) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have read Constance O'Banyon before and liked her books, but this one is almost my favorite. Garret would be my idea of a real Texas hero. I'm twenty one, single and looking for someone just like him. Anyway, back to The Agreement; the storyline kept so inthralled, I wanted to read it in one setting. I coultn't of course, I have to work. If you have not read The Agreement, I recommend you get a copy now. You won't be sorry.

My mother said I could read her Constance O'banyon books when I got to be sixteen. For the last month, I have been plowing through them and loving every word. Now, I came to The Agreement and I think it's the best book I've ever read. I loved Song of the Nightingale, but this one is awsome. Lauren is the kind of person I'd like to be, and if only I could meet a man like Garret!!!! I can't wait to read Connnie's next book. They have given me the greatest pleasure.
