Ah-Choo!, May 19, 2011
This review is from: Ah-Choo! (Paperback)
ISBN 0439266181 - Printed in the U.S.A. Marked "RL2 004-008." Paperback, 29 pages. Published by Scholastic Inc. in 2002. By Margery Cuyler, illustrated by Bruce McNally.
Starting with the farmer, just about everyone on the farm has the flu and everyone is sneezing! Thankfully, the doctor shows up to tend to everyone.
All right, here's a thing. There are crazy people in the world and, perhaps unfortunately, a lot of those crazy people reproduce. Then they look at, and see things, that normal parents don't. This first note is for those people: Everyone in this book sneezes, without covering his/her nose and mouth, in the direction of someone else. Yes, pretty much ON someone else. You're going to freak out about that, because you take everything seriously. How you manage to accept talking mice has always baffled me. Moving on to normal people.
This is a cute, if pointless, book. The farmer sneezes on his wife who sneezes on the dog who sneezes on the cat... all the way down to the chick who sneezes on the mouse. The final pair are the first to speak, discussing the flu that they share. If you're going to get this book, get it because it's amusing, but don't get it expecting a story because there really isn't one. The illustrations are great, with fantastic expressions and the effects of every sneeze in glorious detail (no, no boogers!). Personally, I like more substance in my books.
