I remember spending a lot of time as a teenager trying to figure out who made this song. When I finally found out who it was, I rushed to the music store to get the LP. I can't even name another song on the album because all I ever played from it was "Ah Leah."I know there are better songs, but something about the simple composition of this one; the brief but dramatic guitar solo; and what I assume is a synthesizer chiming in with that brief but powerful, two-chord bass riff during the last chorus just got a hold of me and wouldn't let go. I played this song repeatedly throughout the early 1980's, blasting the car stereo in my hometown of Tampa, Florida, until I had literally worn out the cassette tape. It wasn't a huge hit (it peaked at #28 on the U.S. charts in 1980), but I loved it. When I first saw Donnie Iris on the cover, I thought he looked kinda geeky with those glasses and short hair; not someone I would expect to be a rock star. I wonder if he was trying to emulate Buddy Holly. I enjoyed his other radio hits, too...'Love Is Like a Rock,' 'Injured in the Game of Love,' and 'Do You Compute?' Although few in number, Donnie Iris' hits managed to get earn him a page in the history of American rock music.

I was really impressed with the sound quality of this download. I know this song is from the early 80s but the quality of the production is as good and any today.Amazing harmonies, excellent guitar playing, etc! I've always loved this song but never seemed to pick it up but for .99 cents sheesh - I've paid $15 for albums that stunk. Great great song.

I've loved this song since it came out when I was a kid. I'm sure that having a crush on a girl named Leah for the last half of the 80's kept me as a fan. :)The sound quality of the MP3 is excellent. If you're a fan of the song, I say that it's definitely worth the 99 cents. I'm still in awe that I can find my favorite one-hit-wonders from the 80's and download them instantly for under a dollar. Bless you, internet. Bless you... |
