This review is from: Ah Pook Is Here! (Paperback)
Ah Pook is Here is a rare novella by Burroughs dating from around the time of "The Wild Boys" dealing with the Mayan god of death and an American's attempt to steal the secret of immortality. What's really interesting is that Burroughs seems to have done a lot of research into how the Mayans viewed death as being part of the cycle of life, insights which are included and integrated into the text. There's a new version coming out soon, in graphic novel format, with full color illustrations, so be on the lookout. This edition here also includes an illustrated, in semi-comic line drawing format, text called "The Book of Breathing", which is more conceptual.
