More About the Author

Bonnie B Matheson was born in Washington DC during the second World War. She has five grown children and more than a dozen grandchildren. Writing has always been a passion for her, but it was not till after the age of 50 that she began to write in ernest. She is fascinated with the ideas, pleasures and wisdom that come with the second half century of life. Many men and women age much more slowly today, than their grandparents did. Many are active and healthy into their 90s and above. Ms. Matheson says that anyone can sparkle after 50 and they should do so.

She is especially interested in sexual life after midlife. Her views are positive and upbeat. "Just do it!", she says. Sex is necessary for good health at any age. She has many ideas about how to make that happen, how to meet a partner if you don't already have one. She is a health and wellness coach as well as an author. She is working on a new book and more are simmering somewhere deep within her mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool, Comforting and Inspiring - Bonnie Matheson's "Ahead of the Curve", August 6, 2009
This review is from: Ahead of the Curve: An intimate conversation with women in the second half of life (Paperback)

In a world ruled by technology and increasingly urbanized to the point that families never have a meal together and communicate by texting, this slim volume is as refreshing as a cup of tea with a favorite aunt. No matter how old we become, we always yearn for a mother's guidance and this book is the product of Ms. Matheson's life journey as daughter, wife, mother and grandmother on to independent woman in the second half of her life. Full of cool common sense and sound advice, it is both comforting and inspring. Just reading it, I felt more positive about life. Interspersed with tales of her own life journey are gentle suggestions for the reader. This is an intimate book in that the author does not push any personal agenda on the reader, instead she is supportive of the reader's goals and dreams whatsoever they may be. The graceful prose style of Ms. Matheson reflects both her education and background as well as how comfortable she is in her own skin. It is easy to relate to the author and understand her points clearly. For every woman, of any age, but especially for those who are at the "change of life" period, this gentle book has the potential for a profound impact on your life and I highly recommend it.

Ms. Matheson's book is a call to wake up and live; not to seek the quiet water at stream's edge, but to seek the rapid flow , and head up river.
Its strong messaging urges engagement as a master strategy for an abundant life.
I suspect, but don't know first hand, that she sweats a lot, like she urges us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Swift and Delightful bit of Inspiration, August 27, 2009
This review is from: Ahead of the Curve: An intimate conversation with women in the second half of life (Paperback)
Matheson's book reads like an etiquette guide from the 19th century, but for an entirely different set of social situations. This slim little volume provides valuable encouragement for middle-aged and older woman. Her personal story of divorce, and the empowerment she gained through the experience, is an inspiration.
