Superior Funk,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ahh the Name Is Bootsy Baby (Audio CD)
Bootsy's follow-up to his smash debut "Strechin' Out" it is by far Bootsy's finest solo album. From the super-hits "Ahh.... The Name is Bootsy,Baby" &" The Pinocchio Theory (fake the funk and your nose gotsta grow) to my slow song favorites "What's a Telephone Bill?" & "Munchies for your Love" (i had to get older to really know what Bootsy was talking about). Bootsy's always right on time. Long live the funk. This lp always reminds me of my sister Valencia. Peace to the Producer Mr. George Clinton & Mr. James Brown.

My friends, what you must understand is that Bootsy and crew are "Master Musicians." Most American music listeners expect the endless slight variation on the same thing. You will never get that from Bootsy. When the album "Mothership Connection" was made, it was not to be duplicated. George Clinton & Bootsy hardly ever looked back. They looked forward, even as they were recording or playing live. Part of what makes Bootsy and the entire P-Funk Mob so great is the fact that they refused to be locked into one style of music. If you want to grow as a music listener, expand you understanding of the craft and witness artistic boundaries beginning pushed, then this is the CD for you. But if you are closed in mind, you will not comprehend a fine piece of work such as Bootsy's "Ahh...The Name Is Bootsy, Baby!" I think it's a gem of a CD.

SAY BOOTSY!!!!!,

I kid you not-THIS ALBUM IS CRAZED!!!The critics are all 100% right-'Ahh...The Name Is Bootsy,Baby' should carry a disclaimer saying 'Warning:This album will FUNK YOU UP'.Maybe one complaint is that,at least on the uptempo cuts Bootsy doesn't know when to relax-this is hyper extended funk that's loud, cacaughanous and obviously bassy to the extreme. The first side just punches right in with the insane title track, doesn't change a thing on "Pinocchio Theory" and "Rubber Duckie" then smooths out on the calmer ballad styles of "Munchies For Your Love" and "What's A Telephone Bill" on the second half, pointing out what a strong straight singer and good songwriter Bootsy is.
Of course it's right back into funk with the slower burning groove of "Can't Stay Away" with it's crazy cartoon vocals. So in conclusion if your not into having disco mixed in with your funk or think George Clinton's Parliafunkadelicment Thang is a bit self indulgant for your tastes this (as well as most of Bootsy's other solo albums of this period) deliver the funk in a far less refined way-giving it up straight,or totally out of shape as the Rubber Band will give it!

funky album,
This review is from: Ahh the Name Is Bootsy Baby (Audio CD)
this disc is still banging after all these years.the grooves are timeless.you can't fake the funk and bootsy rips all thru the disc.he is a one man band at different times.able to groove not only on bass but keys, drums and guitar.he shares the spolight with the p funk crew but he is a force within himself.

THE DEFINITION OF FUNKY,

If you putting together a time capsule this is what you put in under funky. If you never had a clue about what the funk is by the CD put on some headphones and go for the ride of your life. This arguably Bootsy at his best (although the others aren't bad either) a rare album/cd that you can just let play no need to pick and choose here. I RATE THIS A VERY SAFE BUY BUT BEWARE FUNK IS HABIT FORMING!!!!!!

A Tripped Out Funk Classic !,
This review is from: Ahh the Name Is Bootsy Baby (Audio CD)
This classic Bootsy recording (circa '77) proves Bootsy not only to be a reigning funk master, but also the reigning king of the funky, hot, slow an nasty slow jam. While P-Funk stretched the limits of disco-funk and Funkadelic funk on a rock tip, there's more of a tight 'n wicked R & B sensibility to the "Rubber Band" side of the P... in many ways the Rubber Band recordings are a lot tighter than the P-Funk recordings... but despite the differeces in style, you know you're in the realm of the "P" for sure... the grooves are just as outrageous, bad, and trippy... chemically altered funk with that thumpin space bass, the P-Chants, and not to mention Bernie Worrel's space age funk keyboards (a plenty of horn tightness with the Horny Horns + The Brecker Brothers) - - You can't help move when you listen to side one... but when you flip it over, just as Bootsy has you wound you up to the "P" long before Prince even made his purple mark, he's layin' down some pretty wicked love jams, and they're just as freaky. This one is a straight through and repeated listen (in a hazy musty smelling smoke filled room) type listen... I've been listening to it on an off for almost 14 years.....! Its ashame that despite the fact that today's R & B has embraced the funk, it hasn't quite yet inherited Bootsy's wild imagination, charisma and abilities as a songwriter and arranger (!)And speaking of getting wound up... Check out Chuck Brown's latest Live CD for sure !

....whatever you wanna call him--Casper, Bootzilla, the Player in the Funkay Haberdashery--he is and always will be too funky for words. His first four albums with the Rubber Band-- "Stretchin' Out In a Rubber Band", this, "Bootsy? Player of the Year" (Ummm, L. A., Cali-forn-I-A, City of Angels, Hollywood!), "This Boot Was Made for Fonkin'"--were hands down his best. This, in my opinion, was the most complete of the tetrology. You can play it all without skipping any of the jams, all are equally great. My favorite among these are--what? How did you know? Looking forward to the new Bootsy collection with his great jams remastered for us true digiphiles...

the guitar in the background of munchies for your love sounds like eddie hazel or jimi phoning it in from heaven or wherever great guitiarist go.This Is Bootsy's Electric Ladyland Pinnochio Theory is off the beaten path but on the one funk. Rubber duckie is bing Crosby,Looney tunes funk.Whats a telephone Bill Has a great line "wait a minute operator I wasn't talking to you" It's like bootsy's Octo pu-pu-pu-pusses line from be my beach. Ilove this abstract slice of funk.

This man along with the Funk Master George Clinton single handedly changed the way I looked at music in my younger years.
They created a concept and an imaginary world where funky music was fun. George Clinton and Bootsy Collins R the undeniable tag team of funk in its most purest form. This CD is Bootsy's coolest one to date. From the CD cover to the songs on the project,...U can just feel the era of funk that rocked us all back then. I'm definitely a Rubber Fan for life.

...in a galaxy far away, the Mothership deposited one of its captains on the shores of this planet and the music has never been the same.Bootsy, along with George Clinton and the rest of the "Connection", was slammin' then and that "oh-so-funkedified" sound has lost none of its impact today.
