5.0 out of 5 stars A complete healing system for all ages.
I'm a 36 yr. old avid martial arts, yoga and meditation practicioner and I was reluctant to try Ai Chi because the only people I knew of who practiced it were much older. I could see the amazing benifits my mother was getting from the practice but I still thought it was too weak for me. When she convinced me to reluctantly attend one class, I was hooked...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not very useful
I found the descriptions of the exercises occasionally confusing.
I found many of the diagrams confusing.
I found very little having to do with Tai Chi or qigong.

I don't recommend this book.

I'm a 36 yr. old avid martial arts, yoga and meditation practicioner and I was reluctant to try Ai Chi because the only people I knew of who practiced it were much older. I could see the amazing benifits my mother was getting from the practice but I still thought it was too weak for me. When she convinced me to reluctantly attend one class, I was hooked!

Ai Chi is just as powerful as any chi-based martial art practice. In fact, I found that by doing the breathing and movements submerged in water, it is much easier to focus and direct chi within the body. This book is the definative course description that goes far beyond movements. The movements are only a small portion of the book, which has as it's main focus the benifits of Ai Chi and the amazing power of the mind and the breath for over-all health.

Ai Chi is the best kept secret among the elderly! If you are looking for stress relief, you will be amazed. If you are suffering from pain of any kind, I HIGHLY recommend you give Ai Chi a try. Especially those persons diagnosed with Fibromialgia, or suffering from Arthritis. Find a guided practice group and read this book!

Ai Chi - Balance Harmony and Healing

Ruth Sova has created an aquatic program of body strengthening and relaxing exercises based on the work of Jun Konno that uses deep, diaphragmatic breathing and gently controlled movements in a progression of sixteen moves or postures to create flexibility and increased range of motion. Each posture has a name that describes physical action as well as mental association. With easy-to-follow diagrams and a detailed explanation of each posture, Ai Chi - Balance, Harmony and Healing walks the reader through each step so that a student can perform the moves without advanced instruction. Sova, however, includes an abundance of additional information such as the mind body connection, the relationship between breath and the autonomic nervous system, benefits for a diverse population and more, to move the student of ai chi on to an advanced level of participation.

I am new to Ai Chi, but in a few short weeks, I've learned to love it and I am sharing this practice with others who are also loving this form of exercise and meditation.
