4.0 out of 5 stars TINA REVEALS HER LOVE, October 16, 2006
This review is from: Ai Yori Aoshi, Vol. 14 (Paperback)
Tina and Kaoru's pretend date in Kyushu has wound up at Tina's old school and she uses the setting to tell him about a boy she used to like but was too afraid to tell. I'll give you one guess as to who this boy might have been! Will Tina finally let it all hang out and tell Kaoru about her love for him, or will she continue to be silent about not only her feelings, but her emminent departure for America? Meanwhile, all this time spent with Tina exacerbates Aoi's jealousy, and she begins to think that maybe there's something going on between her fiance and her friend. These characters are not the only ones with romance problems as Chizuru, Chika's pal, falls in love with a student teacher at her school! Yes, this is the wild, wacky, sometimes funny, sometimes sad, fan-service, romantic, world of Ai Yori Aoshi!

While it had its high points, I thought this 14th volume of Ai Yori Aoshi was just an average installment in the series. What I liked about it is that somebody actually declares their love for Kaoru besides Aoi. All these girls have been stewing for umpteen volumes without ever seriously straight-faced saying the words "I love you." I admire Tina for getting the courage to do it. She has really shined as more than a stock comedy character in the past couple of books, but unfortunately, towards the end of this volume, she returns to the boob-grabbing drunk buffoon act, which in some ways diminishes her character and probably signals that she will not be a big factor in the manga anymore. There is a charming chapter here that follows Tina and Mayu on a night out and even though they have a bit of animosity on the surface, you can tell that their feelings for Kaoru gives them a special bond. I did have a bit of a problem with Aoi's jealousy because it just seemed so wrong for her personality. She just doesn't strike me as the jealous type. The art is awesome as usual.

5.0 out of 5 stars A time for Tina., October 15, 2006
By
P. McCarthy "Storyteller" (Hazlet, NJ United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Ai Yori Aoshi, Vol. 14 (Paperback)
This is probably one of the best books in the series. Unlike most relationship oriented manga that seem to enjoy keeping things in a state of emotional limbo, this book actually settles things almost completely with one of the main characters. People actually have conversations and talk to each other about what they want and what is (and isn't) possible. In short, the characters in this manga are getting on with their lives. Like I said, it has its fun points just like the rest of the series, but unlike other relationship manga (I's, etc..), this book takes care of business.
