Self Help Author sees the beauty of this message., April 23, 2006
This review is from: Aim Low: Quit Often, Expect the Worst, and Other Good Advice (Paperback)
I read a review of this book while traveling through Nashville recently. At first it seemed to slam self help books in general, and as the author of a somewhat quirky book on how to overcome obstacles to daily joy ("Live in the Moment"), I bristled for an argument. In the end, I realize that "Aim Low", is indeed a self help book, only it takes a reverse point of view. "Our happiness doesn't have to depend on results..." was the summation of the review and I couldn't agree more. As long as we're all still striving for happiness!

The only book you need to read!, October 11, 2011
This review is from: Aim Low: Quit Often, Expect the Worst, and Other Good Advice (Paperback)
Oh so much to say, but this has been one of the most delightfully entertaining books I've read in quite a while. Dave managed to cram all these logical concepts about truly Aiming Low and embracing your inner loser that I myself have pondered over the years into a concise, fun to read book, that I will most likely reference til the end of my days. In fact, I wish this book was given to me during high school, where the parental units sense of over achievement still coursed these veins just so I could make the point "Was it really worth all the trouble?". I could have gotten to where I am today doing the bare minimum and with less headache!
Ultimately, this a manual on celebrating the simple things in life, about choosing that second double bacon cheeseburger, a concept that most underachievers shouldn't shame, but embrace. Maybe if we all embraced our inner loser, quit sweating about dreams you're not likely to achieve, quit keeping up with the jones's and start turning off the Kardashians and the news and your boss, this world could be a better, more enjoyable place for us all. This book is a definite must read for those among us who want to quit, but don't know how (its really easier than you think)! And for a $1.69 at the time of this posting, its worth the effort you took to collect the 4 quarters, 6 dimes and 9 pennies from between your living room couch cushions.
and with that, I leave you with a quote -
"Every time you aim low, you'll feel as if you've died and gone to Disneyland. You'll be in a place where you're never concerned about hard work, a place where you'll never feel guilty about goofing off all day, a place where nobody expects anything from you, a place where choosing to eat a third corn dog - or not - will be the hardest decision of your day."
Thanks Dave Dunseath, you are my hero!
