1.0 out of 5 stars Bought it, couldn't read it, had to buy a different one, May 19, 2003
By
"ddyersf" (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Aim/far 2003 (Paperback)
I know Federal Aviation Regulations aren't the easiest things to read. But I didn't expect it to be impossible. The Regs are public knowledge, so there are lots of different publications. I bought this one first, and after struggling with it for weeks, had to go out and buy a different one.

Why? One word - indentation. Or lack thereof. While the Federal Aviation Regulations are in outline format (sometimes up to seven or eight levels deep), this publisher has opted to use ONLY TWO levels of indentation. Why? I can only think that this made the book take up less pages, and cost them less to produce. Too bad, because it makes it almost IMPOSSIBLE to distinguish between text deep in at Level 6 and heading text at Level 2.

At first, I blamed myself for not understanding the material. Finally, I wised up and put the blame where it belonged, in the layout of this book. I looked around and bought the FAR/AIM 2003 from Gleim Publications. Clear, easy to read indentation, and even great use of bolding. Why didn't other publishers figure that out?

5.0 out of 5 stars Memorable? It better be!, July 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Aim/Far 1999 (Serial) (Paperback)
Of course it's not the greatest read of all time, but hey, it was written by aviators. 5 stars for being a the most critical publication for a pilot to have and know before going flying.
