The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake, written by Aimee Bender, was a truly amazing book. It talked about all the struggles people have in life, such as anger, grief, depression, happiness, love, and many other emotions. 3.0 out of 5 stars Could have been more
While this book has an interesting plot idea...tasting emotions in food...it falls flat when delivering the story. Lots of questions remain at the end of the story. It lacks detail and clarification, repeats the same over and over, plus it leaves major details about the characters undeveloped or explained. Bottom line, it's an ok read if you aren't expecting greatness.

This review is from: Aimee Bender'sThe Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake: A Novel (Hardcover)(2010) (Hardcover)
The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake, written by Aimee Bender, was a truly amazing book. It talked about all the struggles people have in life, such as anger, grief, depression, happiness, love, and many other emotions. The main character learns that she can taste the feelings of people who make her food, and is then seemingly burdened with the knowledge of people's dark, depressing secrets. However, this can also help her because it allows her to help people going through struggling periods of their lives. Bender makes the reader see and feel all the emotions that the characters are feeling, and as impossible as it may seem, the reader can taste the feelings that the character tastes. The author gives a great sense of relations to the reader, and really shows them that she feels what they feel too. I definitely recommend this book and encourage everyone to read it.

1.0 out of 5 stars like a broken record, January 31, 2011
This review is from: Aimee Bender'sThe Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake: A Novel (Hardcover)(2010) (Hardcover)
It is about this little girl that can taste emotions through food, which is a good premise. But once we find out her mother's secret, nothing happens. Aimee Bender just keeps repeating the same things she already told us. It should have been a short story not a long one and I would have given it a better rating.Although, the piece of cake on the cover is quite beautiful and lovely, but even that couldn't make this book worth more than one star.
