Aimee, December 2, 2006
This review is from: Aimee: Life Story of Aimee Semple McPherson (Paperback)
From her parents' farm in Canada to the Angelus Temple pulpit in Los Angeles, she pitched her tents, preached the gospel, and ministered to all who would hear. Her reputation traveled around the globe, and in this book she reveals her own impressions and recounts the facts that made her activities such a sensational media attraction.
Aimee Semple McPherson did the seemingly impossible for a woman in the first half of the twentieth century. She refused to be daunted by obstacles, large or small, and held tenaciously to her faith in the reality of the unchanging Christ. The story of her life gives insight not only into the humanness of a woman who became a legend in her own lifetime, it also paints a portrait of a religious movement she founded which today, over thirty-five years after her death, continues to grow and expand throughout the world.

Aimee: her life story, October 17, 2011
This review is from: Aimee: Life Story of Aimee Semple McPherson (Paperback)
The more I have read about Aimee, the more I have wanted to read her life story, and preferably written by her own hand. It was a delight therefore to be able to find this lovely book and to read what she had to say.
Aimee had such a wonderful way with words: such descriptive and expressive writing, you feel you are there hearing the sounds she heard and experiencing what she was experiencing.
She probably does touch on most aspects of her life, but understandably the more sensitive were not covered in much detail. For a full account we need to read a biography aswell.
However, my heart goes out to her [if that is possible so long after her life], since Robert Semple was obviously the most perfect match for her in every respect, and yet she became a widow in China before their precious little Roberta Star was born. I believe she downplays her tangible loneliness over the years and her disappointment at not being able to find anyone like Robert to help share her load. I found her heartfelt cry to Jesus so moving, touching and revealing, when both she and Roberta were suffering from the deadly influenza epidemic, she cried out sobbing: "Oh Jesus, everyone can stand just so much. You took Robert, don't take Roberta". Jesus amply rewarded her for her heartfelt plea.
Aimee had been dedicated to Jesus' service before birth and called to preach the gospel; but she hadn't agreed to do so: until she was on her deathbed; when Jesus instantly brought life and healing to her dying body. And, how blessed was her work for Jesus: she only once had to work up a crowd at the beginning. However, she began by washing dirty dishes, waiting at tables, making beds, and playing the piano at another's tent mission.
Aimee walked by faith in Jesus to provide for her; and by prayer. Robert had introduced her to this life. It was through faith that she built the Temple, Bible College, Radio Station and all that entailed.
Her testimony of her abduction is riveting. I am amazed anyone could have doubted her.
Aimee was dedicated, called, responded, worked up from the bottom, laboured like any strong labouring man; but she loved Jesus so much and was totally dedicated to Him. She was a willing vessel whom Jesus could use more and more in His service of winning people over to Him, including miraculously healing them.
I consider it a great privilege and joy to have been able to find a copy of this precious book. I shall re-read it many times, and once again feel as though I am there with Aimee in that wonderful work.
