She is deeply in love with Roger, her mature consort of five years. Roger is a very charming "gallant" who loves Paula but is too selfish to give up his freedom to be promiscuous. When Paula meets Phillip, the 24-year old, immature, lawyer son of one of her rich clients, he falls hopelessly in love with the glamorous, sympathetic older woman and insists that the age difference will be no barrier to a romance. Paula resists the young man's persistent advances, but finally succumbs when Roger initiates yet another affair with one of his young "Maisies." An affair begins, and society does not approve.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Film, July 3, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Aimez-vous Brahms? / Goodbye Again - (Russian Import - PAL DVD) (DVD)
Rare film, never released in the US. Bought French and/or Russian subtitles version. Excellent dubbing. It is a pity that today superficial films are being released on DVD/Bluray and real classics remain forgotten. This has to do most probably with copyright laws, but from a marketing point of view, to the fact that public taste has tremendously changed in the last thirty years. Superficiality and below-the-belt humor is nowaddays the name of the game. Heroes in today's cinema are often 15 years old. This simply does not make sense. What a relieve to see this mature film.
From an artistic point of view, good shots, excellent acting, beautiful black & White cinematography, and stylish narrative.

4.0 out of 5 stars HIGHLY Doubtful, October 26, 2010
This review is from: Aimez-vous Brahms? / Goodbye Again - (Russian Import - PAL DVD) (DVD)
Women don't like little brothers and I think that in reality, Ingrid Bergman and Anthony Perkins would personally have too much going for themselves to be disrespectful to the other person by thinking of them in a romantic way given the HUGE age gap. But it's fun watching the two of them lie to the audience. AS IF Anthony Perkins who is so pretty that he has to have dark eye liner to shrink his eyes AND his appeal is so twisted and nihilistic as to pine and drink his health away - with those pretty bones? I doubt it. I would never put money against Anthony Perkins who really knows how to deliver strange lines indicating an educated upbringing and innate talent - he's just too smart and worldly to act like a jackass. They both are. And Yves Montand would never clutter his hounddogging ways with a clingy relationship with a woman to whom he wasn't attracted or didn't find compelling.
